Looking for a little info from the suppressor crowd. I am looking to get my first one and I will probably set up a rifle specifically for this project. This is really more a question of what is the best round to start with for a suppressed hunting rifle. I was eyeballing the 338 ARC pretty hard, but with all things equal as far as FPS goes would a 458 socom be a better option for hunting? Are there any rounds that are known to be particularly difficult as far as feeding and functioning that I should stay away from? I have a short barreled 338 lapua that I will probably eventually get a can for as well, but for this one I want to set up a rig to run true subsonic suppressed rounds but I would like to get as much kinetic energy as possible for hunting.

kinetic energy is a function of Mass and velocity. Subsonic rounds have a velocity cap at 1050-1100 fps. As such, the only way to increase kinetic energy is to increase the mass of the projectile. Larger diameter projectiles will give you more mass, thus more kinetic energy. But, the trajectories of all of them will approximate throwing a rock.
