Hello,

I am planning on turning a 416 SS barrel down for a Badger FTE brake install. I have never turned any barrels before. What kind of timing needs to be done, if any? I am under the assumption that no timing need be done since the FTE uses a clamp collar in addition to the threads.

Any advice or guidance?

Thank you!

Personally, I'd time the brake. Also, make sure you bore out the FTE before firing....you might not like the results otherwise! One more thing, dial in the barrel off the bore to make sure the bore is in-line with the centerline of the brake.

The barrel already has threads, therefore I will not be threading it. I will be setting up using the bore as my zero; not the outer diameter of the barrel. Is timing necessary on a Badger FTE? The FTE uses a clamping collar in addition to the threads, my understanding of the clamping collar is that it will allow you to fix the position when timed properly. Is there any further timing necessary?

This is my first time performing a turning operation on a rifle barrel. I have a piece of 416 that I will use to for some practice in order to familiarize myself with the material.

Thanks for the advice so far guys.
