Rifle Scopes Fixed 10X

I'm thinking about picking up a reasonably priced 30mm fixed 10 power tactical scope. I don't really have any particular rifle it's destined for, but several times over the past couple months I've found myself wishing I had an extra scope on the shelf.

The SS 10x42 is the benchmark I'm looking at, and that might be what I end up going with. But I was also considering the Falcon Menace 10x42, which SWFA has on the sample list right now for $299. Anybody have any thoughts on those two, or any other options for me? Lets say my price cap is around $400.

Bushnell makes a 10x mil/mil, along with Wotac, which is also a 10x mil/mil. SWFA 10x is also a good scope, I like mine. I'm partial, but I'd say go with the SS.

I'm in the same boat, build a 7mm08 and looking into a SS10x42. Hear nothing great reviews. Just getting into shooting long range and just want to shoot a maximum 600 yards. So i figure the SS 10x42 will work just fine. Bushnell makes a 10x42 too but i think the SS is a better deal.

I had one of the SS around for a while just for this very thing. Oddly enough it landed on one of my dad's rifles and he couldn't be happier. Of the 4 brands that have been mentioned, I would only consider the SS or the Bushnell. I have had the Bushnell for almost 2 years now and think that it is a very good little scope. It tracks true, clicks are solid, easy to read turrets. I really don't have any complaints with it. I give the nod to the SS mostly because it is a 30mm tube as opposed to the 1" tube of the Bushnell. As most of my scopes are 30mm, it just makes more sense to have a 30mm replacement / fill in scope should I need it. If you go with the SS, you will get a solid scope with a great company to back it up.

I have had great luck with the Bushnell 10x mil/mil. I have had one on my .243 bolt gun and heavy barrel AR for just about a year now and it has performed flawlessly through some pretty rigerous use including rain and extreme cold.

It is a 1" tube though.

Hmmm, not hearing anything new. Big surprise...

I really like the little 10X bushnell, but the 1" tube and no parrelax kill it for me at this point. I'm a bit wary of the WOTac. Matt's a really great guy to deal with, but it seems like I remember them having some quality control problems when they first hit the scene. Nobody has any thoughts on the Flacon 10X42?

I've had both the 10X ssniper and 10X bushnell and if I were to buy again I'd probably get the bushnell. It fills the same niche for 100$ less and it's just as functional.

edit: probably wouldn't buy a falcon or wotac unless it was for a 22, I've heard too many horror stories about them.

Bushnell 10x milmil gets my vote. Bushnell has always served me nicely and have no complaints.

I have a 10X Wotac on my rifle right now and am pleased with it. The Clicks can be a bit mushy but I hear removing the O-ring helps that considerably.Not that big of a deal for me. Cmon, it's a $300 scope. Glass is good. Better than my 16X SS for sure. My biggest complaint is the eye relief is a bit critical. I knew they had some issues with quality control on the first few Generations when I purchased this through SWFA. I figured between all the good customer service stories from SWFA and from Matt at Wonder, I was covered either way. I used it for last years Shooters Bash at RO all the way to 1000 and it has always returned to zero.

SS for sure. I have the 10x42HD, which is over your price range. I've never handled the $300 10x42 but let's just say every SWFA I've touched has been a great solid scope.

I have a 10x and 12x WOTAC and both are great scopes. Id give the scope a chance. Its not expensive and if you really dont like it Matt will make it right.

Thanks for the feedback all. I ended up picking up a SS10x42 last night. It'll be nice to have something on the shelf, just in case.

I know this is not the price range you are looking for but here is one of the best 10x scopes you can get. The USO ST10s is where it’s at.

I traded my Leupold Mark 4 fixed 10x for my AICS. I wish I had it for another build. It was a great scope and I like the quick adjusting 1 MOA knobs.

I recommend that you shoot one before outlay of cash, lack of eye relieve sucks, IMHO

I shoot the SWFA SS10x42. You can shoot one of theses with confidence. It's tacking is good to GO. I have not used the 10x Bushnell but would not hesitate buying one of those either.

I’ll offer my advice on the 10x. There is no everytime "winner", each is different. I have on hand a USO and M3 Leupold and really like both.

Leupold
Advantages: sleek slim impressive design, lightest (around 1.5 w/rings), nicely covered knobs, sharp thin reticle, includes 4-5 BDC dials, clarity is roughly the same as the USO 10x
Disadvantages: click Do Not MATCH the RETICLE, no option other than 1MOA clicks

USO ST-10
advantages: It has an option you want, EREK knob, illuminated, any reticle, ect, clicks match the reticle!
disadvantages: HEAVY! (over 2 pounds w/rings)

S&B (speculated since I didn’t have one on hand)
The S&B is right in between these other two. The Leupold is a lighter more sleek and could be used as a very fine hunting scope. The USO is certainly superior in the tactical (EREK knob) and durability (thick tubes) domains.
