Rifle Scopes Fixing The Premier "mushy" clicks

Before i start i will say that I talked to Jerry at Premier Reticles and he gave me the ok to post this. He contacted me after I had sent Gen2Mildot a PM about the fix that was done on the scope here to fix the mushy clicks. Jerry sent me the parts and instructions to do it. It isnt very hard by any means and will not harm the scope if done right. Also it wont void your warranty. If you dont feel comfortable feel free to contact Jerry at Premier.

Process for replacing clickers:

1. remove the lever lock toggle and knob
2. remove the three screws holding the top plate on turret assembly and carefully lift the plate to remove it.

3. Using needle nose tweezers carefully lift the clickers individually from the cavity from which they set
4. Replace single spring click mechanism with the supplied replacement part containing 2 springs

5. Upon re-assembly pay careful attention not to push the o-ring out of its groove that is located around the base of the turret assembly. This can be easily avoided by rotating the knob back and forth as you push it down and seat it into position.

when you have the top plate off the clickers will be stacked with a 2 spring piece on top and the 1 spring piece on bottom, you must take them both out and then replace the one with 1 spring with the one that Premier sends. 2 replacement pieces were sent by Jerry and in all it took maybe 15 minutes and thats because i was trying to take decent pictures showing what i did. After the modification the clicks are amazing now. Hope this helps, if you feel that your clicks went mushy contact Premier and either send it in or see if they will send the pieces to you. Any questions ask away and sorry about the carpet fuzz on the piece

Are people having problems with both knobs feeling "mushy" or just one or the other? My elevation clicks feel great, but windage clicks feel about half as positive as elevation.?

it just depends on your scope, i crank on the elevation knob quite a bit so once i started missing 1/10th mils every so often they didnt feel like they did the first time i got it out of the box and turned the knobs. I will say that there is a night and day difference in how they feel after the mod as to what they felt like before the mod

I wish Jerry had told me it was just a clicker replacement. I'd have done it myself.

it does appear they checked my scope out while they had it. the lenses were cleaned and the diopter had been adjusted.

get a strong click in the MIL and mushy softer clicks on the .1 MIL.

if you have mushy clicks you'll know it. I was BARELY able to feel a .1mil adjustment before the new clickers.

(2) Thank you for posting this, as it answers a lot of questions for anyone who has a Heritage scope and has mushy clicks. Having Premier send the "clicker" units to the end user will save the end user time and shipping expense, as well as saving Premier a lot of valuable time as well since they won't have to deal with R & R of these parts when they can be building scopes and developing new products instead.

i still personally cant fathom spending $2500 on glass and have to deal with all this... maybe its just me.
do the new premier scopes have all the bugs out of them?

i almost have enough set aside for another piece of glass and im leaning to S+B or premier. but i dont want to have to send it back or play around once i get the thing

thats what you get for being on the cutting edge of performance, its a two way blade, the Premier is every bit as good as the S&B its just they put em out, with the 1st run of the 5-25 there are going to be kinks that have to be worked out. Remember how some of the S&B had problems when they first hit the M40A3, cutting edge sometimes mean you get cut

It's a "new" company on their first run. You'll have these things with any first run production, it's how the company deals with it that counts.

It's a "new" company on their first run. You'll have these things with any first run production, it's how the company deals with it that counts. </div></div>

yep its a night and day difference, no more missing 1/10th mils any more. And the full mill (MTC) clicks are alot more definite. For those of you that have them, when you first got it the 1/10th mils felt like the full mil clunk and the full mil clunks feel about 2 times more definite than before.

you are dead right.
im glad yall are out there that are willing to deal with it and get the product perfect.
im definitely considering a ph for my next scope, but i dont have enough free time and $$$ to deal with the little tweaky issues with them for the price, when i could get a used S+B that is gtg for the same price. and its always the little that dig at me.
i had an immaculate late 80's toyota supra, with super low miles that i bought off a customer at the shop. but it had a weird problem with the auto climate control that i couldnt fix. being an auto mechanic, i couldnt deal with that little tweak, even though the rest of the car looked and operated like it would win a contest. i had to sell it!
once everything gets ironed out im sure i'll have a premier

Took mine apart after seeing this post.
I have the single clicker install. Very easy change out and much appreciated on the heads up and photos!
I sent an email out yesterday to Jerry as I think this makes it easy for them and us to address the issue.
No response back yet today, so a follow up call tomorrow hopes to have her tick and clock as it should.

deadly-there's no moving of the adjustment with the mod is there (did your zero stay put)?

Just a bump in case any PR scope owners haven't seen this!!!!!!

Jerry-I got my goods today and within 5 minutes I had really nice clicks! Gonna run it at a match in the morning, I hope I didn't muck up my zero (shouldn't have, nothing was turned during the process).

While the fix makes the MTC slightly less T, it is still an unmistakable difference at the whole mils.

I received my replacement parts in the mail three days after my e-mail to Jerry, and the swap took about 5 minutes. Thank you Premier!

I still have questions though; if you don't mind my elaboration;

Upon removing the screws and lifting off the top plate, I discovered my scope (#0160) actually already had dual spring clickers. I went ahead and replaced them with my new parts and the turrets were vastly improved, creating a distinctive feel between 0.1 mil movements, something I could not feel previously.

Upon analyzing the old parts, what I found was some severe wear on the tip of the clicker. While the new parts came to a point, the used parts were significantly worn down to a rounded end. There was also a large burr of metal on one side. It appears to me that this burr is actually where the surface of the point was originally. In other words, this small spot on the point was not in contact with the turret, so it wasn't worn away like the rest of the surface. (pics below)

I'm curious to know if these new replacement parts offer improved metallurgy, (carbide steel would be nice) or should we expect to be replacing these clickers on a continuous basis due to this wear?

What kind of screwdriver will I need to get these screws out? I bought a set of Task Force 6 pc Precision Screwdrivers, but I couldn't get the screws untorqued and almost stripped them. They are in there pretty good.

I had the same with mine-two springs and worn ends. I ended up having to replace both clickers for the elevation, b/c when I replaced just the .1mil clicker, I could not feel the MTC. It's now working better than new, and I'm very happy with it.

i used Stanley Precision screwdrivers, the one i used was the 3mm one

I'd give them a call if Jerry hasn't responded to your email (you did email Jerry not their generic "info" email right?). I had replacement parts in hand under a week from first email to him.


Still want to know if the new clickers will wear better or will this be a maintenance issue......
