I have a set of RCBS FL dies in 223. When I resize once fired (from my own rifle) brass in the RCBS dies it's a SOB to extract a sized piece of brass from my Mk 12 Mod 1 clone (WOA barrel). I have to either use a cleaning rod or slam the buttstock. It's trimmed to length also and I'm using a Crane O ring on my extractor. Any suggestions?

Gotta ask.... Are You are screwing the sizing die down till it hits the shell holder, then scewing it down another 8th to 1/4 turn?

Check your shoulder setback to make sure that is not your issue.

Next, how hot is your load?

Lastly, bore scope the chamber and see if it is full of ridges. </div></div>

I agree with NineHotel. There should be no reason to use a small base die, and overwork the brass just to make the round work in your rifle.

Something else is wrong here. Recheck your entire reloading methods against best practices.

I wouldnt call bullshit on the small base die idea. I too needed to go to small base dies for my AR15. the shoulder was being bumped back the correct ammount but I still had problems feeding and extracting some rounds, small base die fixed it all up for me.

Re: FL resized brass in ar15 chamber

I use the same methods that have worked in my bolt rifles for years. My loads are worked from mid level on up, until pressure signs are present. The RCBS resizing die (FL standard) forms the brass the exact same way on anything I resize (from LC surplus once fired to new commercial). I'll give the SB dies a shot.

Re: FL resized brass in ar15 chamber

I necksize for my ar, to avoid all kind of time waste and unnecessary lube mess. Works perfect in my DPMS super bull. Worked perfect in my M1A also.

Re: FL resized brass in ar15 chamber

NH, I did use a micrometer to check the brass that I had a problem feeding and extracting, they were all fired from my AR, they were all once fired and full length sized, all of them had the same headspace, yet these would cause problems no matter how much I cranked down the sizer die. I then measured near the head and realized that was the problem, the Redding die i had was noe sizing that area of the brass so It wouldnt chamber/extract. After I got a small base die, all of those "problem" brass started chambering and extracting just fine.

So I didnt trow money at the problem, I spent time investigating the problem, and came to the conclusion that a small base die was needed to fix the problem.
