I have always used boat tail bullets in my handloads for accuracy. Recently I asked for advice on a 100-200y load for .223 and was directed to the Berger 52gr FB Target. I have had pretty good luck so far with my load development as I narrow down between 25.4 and 25.6gr of 8208XBR. My question is why the flat base versus the boat tail? I find the boatails easier to load because they sit in the case neck easier but besides that I have no idea what the pros and cons of one over the other is besides the fact that almost all factory match ammo and at least 90% of what I read as far as suggested bullets for accuracy include some sort of BTHP bullet regardless of caliber. Can someone explain to me the thoughts behind each and the pros and cons. Much appreciated!
