I'm putting together an NRL22 Base Class rifle and decided to go all out on it since the only criteria is the MSRP rifle and scope must not exceed $1,050.

I bought a 457 Pro Varmint and am scoping it with a Cabela's Covenant 7 5-35x56. I'm adding a Yo Dave kit to get the trigger pull down. I also opted for an extended 35 MOA rail and a new bolt knob.

The stock is getting flush cups added and I may go ahead and pillar bed it at the same time. I'm also swapping out the 2 sling / bipod studs in the stock with a rail to use an Atlas PSR. I'm also adding the Area 419 bottom metal with barricade stop and a Victor Co. cheek rest.

The only thing I haven't been able to find, is a flat trigger shoe. All of my Vudoo's and most of my Anschutz, have flat triggers, so I'd like to replace the trigger shoe on the CZ.

Does anyone know of a company offering these? My Google-Fu isn't turning up any results...it seems like a no brainer to offer these.

Chase down either Timney or Covenanter Arms (Australian) - not sure if they exist anymore but they were using Timney CZ455 triggers with flat shoes in them for their chassis builds. (I was doing the bolt handles for the builds)

I too would love a flat trigger or shoe. It's the one and only thing that bothers me with my 457. I'm thinking of removing my trigger blade, heating it up and straightening via hammer and anvil. If I do it and it works out, I'll post pics of it and the process. Meanwhile, I'm trying to get Bill (triggersbyscar) to design and produce one. Maybe if there are enough of us that want one he might just make a batch. Bill and I are fairly close. Everyone that is interested say so in a post to this thread and I'll let him know what kind of demand he'd have.

Also, Rolltide.. I am an NRL22 MD, and as far as I know, any rail that was not part of the rifle as purchased, if added as an aftermarket accessory, moves you to Open class. Base class accessory rules are subject to local MD enforcement, so check with him/her for final word on it. The only caveat, is if your local MD says it's okay and then you take the same rifle equiped with an aftermarket rail to Nationals, there will be no debate, at Nationals you will be moved to Open class.

Thanks for the replies!

SanginSpecial, I'd love to have a flat trigger shoe, so count me in!

On the rail, are you talking about the rail for the bipod? I know Tyler mentioned that ARCA rails were against the rules for base class, but I thought I understood that a short rail for a bipod was allowed. I'll check to make sure.

Thanks again!

Rolltide.. I don't know if you've checked out the Athlon line of scopes, but you may want to look into them before you purchase an optic. I've seen a few folks have trouble with the Cabelas scopes, and since Bass Pro took over, they no longer have lifetime warranties. They are only waranteed for 90 days now.

With an MSRP of 588.00 for your Pro Varmint, it leaves you with around 460.00 to play with. The Athlon Argos BTR GEN2 6-24×50 APLR2 FFP IR MOA has an MSRP of 449.99.

Good luck, and more importantly, have fun!

Definitely double check that. My understanding was that any rail, ARCA or Picatinny, would disqualify a rifle from base class. I remember it being said that "a bipod rail is only acceptable for a base class rifle if it is part of the rifle as it comes from the manufacturer." I am getting older, and my mind needs more vitamin C (caffeine) to stay properly lubricated though.. ?

Update.. Look at the Dec COF. Their is a paragraph in the opening statement about allowed gear for the month of December. It also references the subsections of the rules stated on the second to last page of the COF. Between the two references, it's kind of confusing as one statement says what I said above, "if the gun didn't have it from the mfg'r then it's not allowed", while the other page doesn't get that specific. However, the first statement reads like it's not just about December.. Man, as many complaints and rules as are needing to be written and ammended, the NRL22 is in need of an attorney and technical writing team! Things grew so fast that it's been impossible to keep up. I don't envy Travis, Brittney and Tyler (or his replacement). Their hands are way too full!

Here is the relevant section of the NRL22 rules. Notice it specifically does not list rails.
This combined MSRP price is for the rifle and scope only. It excludes scope rings and bases, bipods, suppressors, data card holders, magazines, spare magazine holders, auto bolt releases, aftermarket triggers and extended magazine releases. Factory barrels may be threaded to accept a suppressor. Adjustments to the stock to get proper cheek weld, trigger jobs, and bedding of the stock are also allowed. Any rifles and scopes that are out of current production cannot be utilized as the MSRP is not available to check.

+1 for a 457 flat shoe

First, put me down for a shoe. They list that you can use a bipod, I think if they want to eliminate the arca rail form base class then they have to list approved mounting methods for the bipod.

I know it's been a while - but any progress on this? I'm also looking for a flat trigger without having to go full Timney.
