I'm expecting to receive an FN AR within a week or so. Does anyone have any suggestions for use, modification, ammo, reloads, accessories that work, and those that don't work for this rifle? I'm getting the heavy fluted barrel model.
Congrats on the purchase. I love my FNAR. You have a super accurate 308, semi and piston operated. Not much to complain. The rifle shoots anything you put in it. It is not finicky about ammo. However the 168-178gr variety match ammo work great. I have not tried 155 scenars or other VLD type ammo in it. I have dropped a couple of hogs with the 180gr Accubond bullet that Blackhills makes.
Mine has a NF 2.5-10x32 scope on it with a Harris bipod. You also need a sling if you plan to hunt or carry it. The rifle comes with a 20rnd mag but i recommend a 10rnd if you plan to hunt to keep your load a little lighter. I have two other friends that also have the FNAR and we installed a PWS PRC muzzle brake on them. The rifle is already a ncie shooting 308 but with this MB it makes it shoot softer than a 223. I can double tap and my scope never moves.
I too am very pleased with my FNAR. I've seen sub MOA accuracy with everything from 150-175 gr. I went with the Harris BRM 'S' pod and the TIS M24 sling.
Put an el cheapo center point 4-16 on it while I make my final decision on optics. Disgraceful, I know, but believe it or not its held up well and is doing the job of allowing me to get comfortable with the rifle in the meantime. I will likely end up with the new Bushnell FFP or Vortex Viper.
My only complaint is the trigger. It's not bad, but its not what I expected either. Creepy and about a pound heavy for my tastes. I know of one guy who's experienced in cleaning up FNAR triggers, let me know if you want his info.
