My grandfather has an old FN Mauser 98 hunting rifle that I would be able to get my hands. I'm trying to get into long range shooting, would this be a good place to start? I've done a little research into the .270 Winchester cartridge and it seems that it would fit my needs as the longest range that I have in my area is 600 yards. I would assume that I would need to swap out the barrel and stock but I am confused as to what stocks would work with this particular action. The other option I have is buying an out of the box Remington .308 and changing it to my needs. Which is the better option?
