Hey everyone I got a few question's for you. Im going to be having a new FN Scar 17s coming soon and I need answers on a few things. First is what the best bullet weight for this rifle? I have on hand about 400 168gr pills I use for my sass would these work good for the scar? I was looking to get the hornady 150 gr pills for it before the rifle gets here since the 7.62 nato rounds uses 147gr pills but im not sure if there any good so im asking you guys. Second is all I have is winchester large rifle primers would these be to soft of a primer for this gun? I don't want a slam fire in the back of my head. I have never had a problem with my sass but it is a way different gun. I dont need crazy accuracy out of it plus I know it's really not a moa gun. I will be using it for running drills only out to about 300 yards or so will just the iron sights for now. Let me know what you guys think I should do. Thanks

Most of the bullets through mine have been the PRVI 145 grain FMJ I've bought in bulk. Luckily, it seems to have a liking for them. I've shot bullets from 110-175 grains in it, and it shoots Sierra 168s best, but not enough better than the 145 FMJs to be worth using for most things. The 145s stay on a 12" plate at 600 using a 1-4X scope, which may not sound awesome, but that's all I ask of it.

I've used Winchester and Federal LR primers. There has been much fuss on the Internet about the SCAR's "violent bolt movement" but the marks on the primers appear lighter than the average AR-15 makes. They looked lighter than what my old ArmaLite AR-10 left too. I have them, but save the CCI military primers for my Garands.

FWIW, it will function with pretty light loads. One day, I was shooting cast bullets in another rifle and on a whim decided to try some in the SCAR. They actually worked, even though they were 175 grains going around 1800 fps. The action cycled slowly like a steam locomotive starting up, but they did function. I've tried other cast loads since, and they all worked fine.
