Does anyone have any input on the McMillan stocks on the FN SPR's Tac-Coord is selling here? I'm looking at ordering one and am not sure if the stock on the A2 is worth the price increase. Granted, I feel their price is great either way, but am wanting to hear what any of you think.

Gimpy, I just bought one of these rifles. Be warned: the A-4 stock is one heavy mother! Great for precision and long range shooting, not great for hunting where you'd need to carry it around for any length of time.

The best fix I found for the TURD that is the McM saddle cheek was to crank down a couple set crews on the side opposite the thumbscrews...that said, the solution sucks only a little less than the cheek itself and my saddles reside in the bottom of the safe, replaced with stockpacks and velcro spacers.
The A4 is the Volvo station wagon of rifle stocks and weighs about the same. A4s are great...if you have never tried ANY other McM or Manners stock.
Of all the SPR stocks, short of ordering what you want from McMillan, I would go with a plain old, non-adjustable A3 and a stockpack.

I wonder if drilling holes straight through the aluminum riser or drilling a series of "dimples" every millimeter where the locking bolts touch the riser, giving them something to lock into, wouldn't be a quck and easy solution.
I agree that the A-4 is a tank. I'm really surprised at how heavy it is. But, it is what I have so I'm going to make it work.

I just mailed off two of my stocks to stockdoc for the KMW cheekpiece installation. One being the FN SPR and the other a GAP, I'd recommend this other than a saddle piece such as a Karsten.

I have one of the Tac Coord. rifles...they shoot great, hell of a price, and Mike is a great guy to deal with.
I agree with you about the cheek rest, the thumb screws never stay tight. I ended up using a small about of green locktite just to keep them in place. I also cut some shims using some very thin kydex scrap to put under the rest so that every time I took the rest off the remove the bolt, I didn't have to find the proper height again. If the bolts ever come loose again, the rest won't fall, also.

Another thought on improving the saddle cheekpiece:
Drill out the threads in the buttstock, then countersink the holes. Then drill/tap holes into the "tongue" of the saddle. This way, the cheekpiece is actually bolted to the stock via countersunk socket head cap screws. You would, of course, lose the "infinite" adjustability.

Mr Maim: the KMW loggerhead is actually quute reasonably priced. Stockdoc here on the hide is a friend of Mr. Cross and will supply/install the system, exquisitely, for very fair $$. Look into it. If you go that route, yiu want to start with a plain jane stock... no pre-existing cheekpiece stuff.

A friend just suggested to pieces of hose; perhaps like windshield washer hose on the two rods; cut to the length of your liking!

Buttplate spacer from McM, installed for like $120 or so. Costs the same whether they install or you do...so have them do it.

I have the FNH SPR A5 in .300 wsm and haven't had any issues with cheek piece loosing up. The only problem I had with my cheek piece is the coating on the inside came off. Waiting for FNH to send a new one, still under warranty.
But I love my A5 stock, to heavy for hunting, but if it was for hunting you wouldn't be buying this rifle to begin with. The A5 and A4 have the hook at the bottom that your spare hand fits perfectly under it, to steady your shot.
