How does the action screw in the barrel affect the accuracy of the gun? I have been desperately searching for a 455 Varmint but no place has them. I found a 452 Varmint for sale used but I am concerned that the action screw in the barrel will affect accuracy. Could it be done away with? Should I just hold out for the 455? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

You mean barrel screw the one in front which is dovetailed into the bottom of the barrel?
Stock configuration:
wood is wood is wood and torque has effect (moves POI in the vertical) and with time i would imagine it would be a constant battle of torque settings as rifle/wood ages. Each rifle has its own sweet spot but generally rear @ 20inchlb front between 15-20 depending or your ammo/rifle combination.
What i did is bedded mine completely to the the rear and first few cm (less than an inch), put aluminum pillar for rear action screw (has to be thin as there is not much clearance to magazine holder) and instead of bedding front screw i've just put in a washer to provide more solid surface for front screw and also i've wanted to reserve option of completely removing this barrel nut if something wouldn't be ok. It turned out great and it shoots also superbly regardless of torque on rear action screw and so i've decided to stick with barrel nut and didn't bed it...
Some suggest complete removal + bedding and some bed both but generally speaking with proper bedding job this nut becomes complete non issue and also torque chasing voodoo is not needed anymore.

The barrel lug can affect accuracy, either possitively or negatively, dependent on its torque value relative to the action screw. However, I wouldn't consider it hugely significant.
In deciding between the 452 or 455 the principle question you need to answer for yourself is:
1. Do I want tha ability to have a multi-caliber rifle or will I desire to add an aftermarket barrel to maximize the accuracy potential of the rifle
If the answer is either "yes" or "maybe" then you will need to purchase a 455. If the answer is a solid "no" then a 452 should be your choice.
The only significant difference between the two models (accuracy wise) is the 455's ability to easily replace the factory barrel with a high end custom aftermarket barrel. Both models are pretty accurate rifles but the 455 with an aftermarket barrel starts getting closer to an Anschutz level of accuracy.

I guess since accuracy is my primary concern for this rifle I should just wait for a 455 to become available. I have no desire for multiple calibers and to upgrade the barrel on the 452 I would have to thread the barrel into the receiver. I may just wait.

I know, I have seen several rebarreled 452s that REALLY shoot! However it would be much more simple to just loosen the screws to swap the barrel. Ugh decisions decisions!

Another question; if I went the 452 route and rebarreled it, how much would that cost?
I have found a place that sells Anschutz barrel blanks for $120 then how much would the chambering tools cost?
I have access to a lathe and am taking machinist courses so I am familiar with the procedure of running one. Thanks

I island bedded the front lug (along with pillar bedding the action) and used a set screw to make it solid to the barrel instead of a slider. The gun was before and has remained for several years after I bedded it very accurate with what it likes to be fed.
