Forensic assistance requested re "shots fired" in Chicago

A friend sent this article to me. The link includes a video in which at time stamp 13 seconds or so and running to time stamp 18 seconds or so can be heard 16 "shots fired." As you will see in the article, local patrol cops called this in, as, not surprisingly, did a few people who live in the area. There are some other facts about the situation in the article.

My question: are these "shots fired?" Or is Chicago PD correct in dismissing the sound as not bona fide gun shots?

If they are shots fired, any guess what the firearm might be?

Cops heard it. Neighbors heard it. Video recorded it. Cars sped from the scene. But CPD say there was no gunfire at Wrigley Field overnight. LOL.

Do you really think anyone is going to be able to make a reliable assessment of anything bases on distant audio of gunshots? An expert with the right audio equipment might be able to single out the voices but even thats probably a stretch.

Its not like guns have this magical harmonic device built into the barrel that emits specific tones that define make and model.

My guess, its the same as 95% of all gun related crime... a semi auto handgun.

According to CSI and NCIS, the make, model, caliber, brand of bullet, weight of powder, and compositional make-up of the firing pin can be discertained simply by the sound. That's how they solve the 'major crimes' in less than an hour.

Gotta get with the times here, and obtain your own personal "Mass-spectrometer" that doubles as an espresso-machine AS WELL AS an instant "DNA'er". This way, you can find the neighbor of the uncle of the grandson through a familial match and pin the crime on the perp before second coffee.

And then defuse the bomb.

Watch almost no television. Asked the question because the Chicago PD thinks it wasn't gun shots, not obvious what else it would be. As to kind of firearm, the obvious guess was a semi auto pistol, but the cadence of shots is very regular, which suggests either a very practiced shooter -- maybe not a stretch given it is Chicago -- or something else altogether, a machine impacting something.

Real question is whether it is gun shots or something else.

I hadn't seen that, thank you. In that case, the firing cadence was pretty good. The splits between shots vary only a little.

That rounds to about 88 people shot per week, or 12.5 per day. In a couple of the wards, 1% of the residents have been shot this year.

ETA: Seriously though, I am surprised that Chicago PD is actively INVESTIGATING gunshots... I thought they simply cordoned off the entire projects areas and let them thin their herds at their own hands. How many murders this summer so far? I think it is around 600-650 since the George Floyd riots began? Oh, and you know what else is ironic? How much you want to bet that at least a good portion of the bodies littering the streets in the aftermath of the gangland slayings are clad in BLACK LIVES MATTER T-shirts?

It's gunfire, one gun, he's getting tired as he goes you can hear the cadence slow down towards the end.

You'd be surprised how common that is when people try to maintain a high rate of fire and accuracy.

16 shots is a 15rd mag with one in the pipe. Couldn't say more without seeing the shells. It sounds loud, close to the camera.
