On December 29, I submitted a form 1 application for a suppressor with a model number that included my initials, a two digit number to indicate the caliber followed by the letter A. In this format: "ABC-22-A", where ABC are my initials. I have the pdf of my submittal to prove it was submitted as I describe. I received approval notification yesterday. I just printed the approved form 1 out and noticed the ATF changed the model number to "B". WTF?!?! I was under the impression we could use any model or serial number we desire for a form 1 suppressor. I submitted an email to the "Ask the experts" section describing the situation asking for a revised form 1 to match my submission. I received no correspondence from the ATF they were going to change my model number during the process. Is this common practice by the ATF?

Just to update things with this situation, I never had a response to my "ask the experts message", nor did I receive a call back when I left multiple voice mails to Heather Huff and Jesse Huff this week. I called again this afternoon and spoke to a gentleman named "Robertson". He informed me that I need to write a letter to the ATF, NFA branch advising that I am changing the model number of my form 1 suppressor to the one I identified in the beginning. I learned that the individual that cleared my form from the "pending research" status just arbitrarily changed my model number, assuming I wasn't going to engrave it. Rather than make an entry with the model number I wrote on my form. Grrr... I asked what I need to do to avoid this in the future. Mr. Robertson advised me to add words into the Additional Description section to state that I actually intend to engrave my suppressor with the model number listed. Seriously? This whole process is for the fucking birds...

I agree with you. The whole NFA and bullshit process is a farce. Its crazy to me they would ask for the SN, but mark it as something else because isnt it the whole point of telling them the SN so they know what the can is marked with? I would lose my shit.

I find it interesting they don't expect you to engrave the model number. I mean how many of the same model are you going to make. I know there would be things I would change from my first one.

Marking requirements are the same for all NFA items.
Manufacturer Name, City, State, model, cal, serial number. Minimum depth of .003" and letter/number size of .0625" height.

On a suppressor the info should be marked on the tube unless the endcaps are permanently attached.
