Hello Sniper's Hide,
I am a career US Army officer with an early background in shooting when I was an Infantry Officer from 1981-1991. I did a little competitive shooting at Fort Campbell and have some knowledge of marksmanship, a smattering of reloading, mostly from watching my former roommate (a true gun expert if there ever was one). Over the years I have acquired a few nice guns which I haven't had as much time to shoot as I would like having deployed numerous times and been posted to overseas assignments. I got out of the Army right after Desert Storm and went to dental school and then rejoined the Army as an army dentist. Now life is not nearly as exciting but still pretty good and it looks like I will be retiring in Colorado Springs in a few more years.
My interests are to return back to shooting, reloading, and getting involved in some rifle and pistol competition shooting. There is a pretty nice range for competitions northeast of where I live run by the Colorado Rifle Club. I hope to become a regular visitor. Closer to home is a newly opened multi-range complex at Fort Carson - several ranges with multipurpose applications. The only major downside is they don't allow large caliber rifles - there is a range restriction on max range -some mostly limited to about .308, though I have seen some folks shoot 30-06.
Over the next few months I hope to set up my reloading bench, sight in some rifles, and enjoy the great Colorado air lightly perfumed with the smell of spent gunpowder. It is also a personal goal to learn as much as I can from reading forums, books, and meeting/discussing with other serious enthusiasts, in order to improve/refine my shooting skills, improve my personal best accuracy, and enrich my knowledge base on guns, marksmanship, and reloading.
Regards,
Anthony Thomas
