I got to shoot my SBR with my new suppessor yesterday. It is a 10" Primary Weapons Upper. I shot with a standard weight buffer and standard spring and was getting forward ejection to about the 1 o clock position. I brought along a buffer out of a .308 (H 3 Marked) i put it in and it was ejecting to the same spot. I had no malfuctions with 180 rounds mostly with the H3 Buffer.

Suppressor is a Gemtech TREK.

+1

I just built a 9" and accidentally drilled the gas port to rifle size .093 (brain fart), with a standard weight buffer and can it wouldnt even cycle it was going so fast. Put a PRI low profile adjustable on it and a 5.85oz buffer in it with stock spring and it runs awesome now. Have the adjustment screw almost all the way off.

I know this, is this normal for the PWS?

The rifle cycles with a stock spring and an H3 buffer unsuppressed, it ejects at about the 4 to 5 o'clock. I have a PWS buffer on order, it is between the H2 and H3 in weight, should I wait for that and add a Wolf extra power spring?

Re: Forward Ejecting with Suppressor

The Wolf spring may make a difference, but unless the PWS is some super-duper miracle buffer I don't see that it would make a difference if the H3 didn't make a difference. I would definitely stick with a heavier buffer than the std buffer though.

I don't have an SBR, just several over-gassed 16" carbines. They all run good with H2 or H3 buffers and the Wolf springs, but ejection is still 2 oclock or so when suppressed. And that ejection chart everybody seems to go by will drive you nuts trying to get the gun to eject at the ideal 3 to 4 oclock. Your brass may just be bouncing off the deflector as well.

In my totally worthless opinion, if it works without malfunction, it's good enough. WHERE it ejects is not near as important as the fact that it DOES eject.

Run the heaviest buffer the gun functions well with using the lightest loads you expect to use. An adjustable gas block works well too, as long as it's not just a simple on/off switch.

Heavybuffers.com will give you some more insight and Slash is very helpful and a standup guy.

Re: Forward Ejecting with Suppressor

I ordered a Slash 8 oz buffer and will be using a wolf spring. Hopefully this will cut down on blowback into the receiver. I have carbon build up inside of my Pmags.....

Re: Forward Ejecting with Suppressor

I DON'T KNOW.....but far as I can tell with mine the only way to reduce the gas into the action and carbon buildup on/in your mags will be an adjustable gas block. You can pinch it off until your gun only gets enough gas to cycle, OR cut the gas off altogether and use it like a straight-pull bolt action.

Converting to piston operation will move the gas exhaust outside of the receiver and eliminate the carbon buildup INSIDE. I would think this would also make the gas exhaust louder, since it's exhausting underneath the handguards. I'm just speculating here-never tried a piston system.

I'm sure Slash figured out the cycling down to the 'nth degree and found out the 8oz buffer would slow the cycling to an acceptable rate, but I don't know about the goal of reducing gas. Without interrupting the direct link from the barrel gas port to the bolt carrier, I don't see any success in this area.

I have a Slash buffer in my 308 and it works flawlessly, but I still have to clean the gun much more often when running suppressed.

Shooting an AR suppressed ( 15, 10 or LR308) doesn't matter it's a filthy endeavor. Your mag bodies will build up some nice soot inside. Get a mag brush.

Re: Forward Ejecting with Suppressor

Obviously over gassed and you shells are bouncing off the deflector hard enough to bounce forward.

Like the other poster said, if it's running, don't fret it. I would rather have a stronger eject than a weaker one......as long as the bolt isn't running so fast it runs right over a round without stripping one.

For a semi auto it wont affect you. Full auto might be a problem as your cyclic rate would be too high but unless you have a 16 lower, who cares?

Re: Forward Ejecting with Suppressor

I went ahead and installed a wolf spring and slash XH buffer 8.25 Ounce buffer (The H3 weighed 6.3) I will update on how it runs with both suppressor and without.

Re: Forward Ejecting with Suppressor

Good to see you got it sorted out. I firmly believe "the chart" of ejection patterns has caused a lot of UNnecessary tinkering with AR's, but it IS a good troubleshooting aid if you're having problems.

Re: Forward Ejecting with Suppressor

My main reason was to delay bolt unlocking time and thus prevent so much blow back into the chamber. I ran some real light reloads and it fuctioned great but did not lock back. I had even more problems with PMC. Medium reloads and bulk federal worked great.

It might but I doubt it. Even on my POF 20" I get smoked mags. With Slash's heaviest buffer, wolf spring and my 762 SD I still get about 1:30 ejection. The back pressure from each suppressor will be slightly different, but it will be there.

I have an unsupressed 16" gun that throws all its empties in a neat little pile 5 feet away at the 2:00.

The gun has 2000 rounds through it without a single malfunction.

I wonder if I could get it to eject at 11:00 with a can???
