I've got a friend who gave me a extended one piece weaver base for my savage 10pc, didn't know if it was worth using or should I pony up and buy a badger ordanance?

Man, I have Weaver extended picatinny base sitting on top of my rig. The back of the base had a tiny gap in between the base before torquing it down, so I bedded it with JB Weld. If you don't mind doing that quick fix, it will be just fine. However, if you just want the best, go with Badger. The Weaver is still a good base though. I've shot mine to 1000 yards no problem, but it has a 20 minute cant. As long as it's 20 MOA, or your scope has a lot of elevation adjustment, it will rock just fine.

As long as you get a quality base, it should work just fine. The big deal about bases like Badger, Nightforce, etc. is the level of toughness that they possess. They are made to be true and strong to withstand the rigors of very adverse conditions. If your rifle is only going to the range and such other activities, all you really NEED is something that is reputable.

I know lots of guys shooting some pretty nice rifles running a Weaver brand base and Burris Zee rings at 600 yards and beyond. If buying the new base is going to force you to have to cheap out on the rings, I'd get the good rings and just use the base that your friend gave you. If you can afford to get better, then by all means, get better.

Just got home with a caliper from work and broke out a straight edge to check this base out, Every thing is square and consistent through out the base. So I mounted it and the mounting holes couldn't have been drilled any better. It also has a recoil lug similar to that of the badger ordanance mount. Over all it seems to be a quality mount, Im going to roll with it and see how it holds up.

    Btillr,

I doubt you will be disapointed. Sometime you get what you pay for and sometime you don't.

Once while in the bosses office I mentioned I was going to buy a new scope. He reached over and picked up something and asked if I wanted it. It was a new scope he didn't like. I like it more because it didn't cost anything. It is working out just fine.

I think your right old man, Im going to spend the money on the rings, worst case scenario is I will have to relpace a base if it doesnt work out
