I just had my 541T barreled action out of the stock. To my surprise there is only one action screw and the barrel is in contact with the barrel channel of the stock for what appears to be the length of the channel. I gently sanded the barrel channel to remove the attrocious amount of dried wood finish bubbles as I was thinking of free floating the barrel.

Now after consideration of only one action screw holding the barreled action in the stock, I am thinking the barrel contact is the only thing keeping the barreled action from moving in the stock.

To free float or not to free float, that is the question.

What says the Hide?

Re: Free float a barrel on a Rem 541T

You need to install another action screw where the wood screw is in order to free float the 541 barrel on a single screw receiver. The earlier 2 screw actions were/are a non issue for free floating. Suppose you could bed at least 2" ahead of receiver and free float the rest?
