The only blue part of VA :(
my stock came with the barrel free floated up until it goes to a straight or 0 taper (about 6'' from the breach)

at that point i believe the barrel is hitting the stock, has anyone free floated all the way up to the chamber and has it improved your groups?

Re: free floating the savage mkII

Hello,

It should not be hitting the stock.

Mine did the same thing, and I took sandpaper wrapped in a dowel rod to it and opened the channel a bit more.

Yes, accuracy improved.

Nothing should touch that barrel. Not the stock, no tree limbs, nothing.

Don't forget to seal the stock after doing this.

thanks! ok. gonna sand the stock channel all the way back to the receiver.

i plan on pillar bedding it as well. i think i found a good step by step over on rimfirecentral.com

made a new bolt knob today. not the best looking thing ever but it works well.

Re: free floating the savage mkII

yeah i did mine, unfortunately a little too far into the stock. i had to put the front mounting screw thru a washer between the receiver and stock to keep it proped up from the forestock.

i didn't see a big improvement in accuracy, however i did it before the weather changed when it was new (wood laminate)

cant hurt to do it.
