First, I apologies for my ignorance but am looking for some insite. The freebore on my 6.5 Creedmoor AT barrel is .180. I tried a batch of Berger 140gn (hunting version) and had plans to load an OCW at 2.820" as this has been what I have used to start all my load development. According to my hornady gauge, I can't load to 2.820" (or don't feel comfortable) because I will be jamming the crap out of the bullet. I ended up loading to 2.790 coal and this only puts me .010" off the lands. Does this sound right?

Sounds fine to me. What is it about 2.820 your hung up on. If you trust the measurement your hornady tool has given you, it just is what it is.

I never consider true oal except as it relates to magazine fit. I tend to load further from the lands to start, but that a personal choice for you.
