That's all gun dependant . Shoot it with varying tensions and find out what it likes. Some like tight or locked down tension, others like a slightly lesser tension. It's all a matter of what the gun likes.

The gun needs to track straight back on recoil. So, somewhere between snug and loose. It will depend on the stock, the material in the rest top, the use of any lubricant like talc, how good you are at making the rest square to the target and gun, etc. Start with just enough tension on the ears to eliminate any left-right play and then trial and error Looking for smooth, straight recoil.
