Hey guys

So I bought a ruger American 22 mag about a year ago. Haven’t shot it much since I’ve had other gun projects going on but I put maybe 50 rounds of Winchester through it. I noticed on the last few rounds it failed to extract the spent cases. I recently let my dad borrow it for a few months for some varmints and he was using the same ammo and had the same issues. I haven’t tested any other ammo yet so it could simply be an ammo problem but i was wanting to see if anyone else had issues with extraction on a rimfire RAR. It seems to be a pretty common issue on other forums for these rifles but no one seems to have found a fix. I called ruger and they are going to send me a replacement extractor and spring. Have any others had issues like this and if so, have you found a fix for it? Thanks!

My 22wmr requires cleaning after every use.
Not just a quick clean but a thorough bolt, receiver and chamber cleaning.
The 22wmr is a dirty round and the blowback builds up fast everywhere.
My bolt face shows heavy build up which affects bolt closure and extraction.
GSR ends up on the sear, in the extractor grooves and inside the bolt.
My other worry is the carbon ring that forms in the chamber.
Case mouth expansion can bite into the carbon ring making extraction difficult.
Brush and solvent and some scrubbing to clear it out.

I definitely will check the chamber. I might try and polish it slightly, haven’t checked to see if there are any rough spots in it yet. I’ll give it a good cleaning and hopefully will fix the issue along with the new extractor and spring
