I took the family to see the bald eagles in Grafton IL today and took along my Fusion 1600s. I got them a few months ago, but haven’t been able to use them much before today. I must say, I was pretty impressed! I was able to get ranges on eagles out to 498 yds (the longest one I tried). These were good hits—bird flying with no obstructions against a broken cloud layer at about 10,000 ft. The returns were fast, too. Trees in the 750-800 yard range were no problem, and I got a quick return on a water tower at over 1400 (think it was 1412).
The glass is pretty good. Mostly clear and easy to get a crisp focus. I didn’t notice much of the blue tint that others have mentioned, but then again I haven’t spent much time with “good” binoculars either, so it is subjective. One drawback is the eyebox on these is rather unforgiving. Once I figured out where the sweet spot was it was easy to quickly get a good picture, but if you move out of it just a little you get tunneling. All in all, I’d say I’m pretty pleased and that the Fusion will serve my purposes quite well. I know it’s a very scientific review, but it was the best I could do while trying to corral 4 kids. Hope it helps. The quick range on the eagle was just too unexpected for me not to share.
