I was deadset on a vortex diamondback 1.75-5 but after reading more online about blurry optics around the edges and lackluster lowlight performance ive decided to continue my search. In a perfect world I'd just pick up a viper pst 1-4 but to me is big money for a 22. I mainly plan on using it for up close work with my suppresor for quiet varmint eradication so I dont need major magnification. I did like that the diamondback had the bdc reticle so if I needed to make a long shot it would be easier. So basically I'm looking for something like the diamondback I was looking at but better quality. If I've just got to pay the big bucks I will but if there is something else that'll save me some money to put towars a tacticool stock and other goodies I'd rather go that route.

Also is everyone getting away with low rings on 0moa egw base?

Re: FVSR Scope recommendations

Hi, can you please define 'close up work' in yards (min-max) . Do you need a illuminated reticle?
Have you considered a reflex, red dot, or simular?

I put a falcon menace 44 objective (w caps 56) and leupold prw medium rings and got 1cm~ of clearance without sunshade

Re: FVSR Scope recommendations

A fixed 10x is going to be too much for what I want to do I think, Id like to be able to get a lower power atleast as low as 4x. The P-22 looks like a possibility, the price is right and the power/reticle are good.

MGD, I guess I couldve been a bit more thorough in my first post. Id say most of my shots will be within 50yds with some as close as 15yds since I pistol hunt from my bow tripod but Ill take the FVSR with me to shoot the coons and squirrels off my feeder. Thus the wanting a scope with a fairly low power. Occasionally Ill be shooting out to 100yds max which is why I havent really consider a RD type sight as Id like a bit more precision than a 3MOA dot.

An illuminated reticle would be a huge plus as I plan to put my varmint light on top of the scope with some of the burris xtr rings. The vortex pst 2.5-10 with the ill reticle on my AR is awesome but to be honest Ive never used it at night, just at dusk/dawn on hogs but it seems an ill reticle would be very beneficial for night work. We occasionally call coyotes in at my buddy's place at night and it would be fun to use the fvsr on them.

Id say my rough specs would be something like:
2-5+ power
less than 300(hopefully)
illuminated reticle
AO
BDC or mil reticle

The scope doesnt necessarily have to meet all those criteria but it would be a huge plus.

Im not sure I really want to go with a FFP scope as the reticle tends to get really small at low power and especially without an illuminated reticle I could see it being very hard in low light conditions to find. Now Falcon makes this scope that looks promsiing

I need to do some more reading on it and see what people have to say but I like the reticle and its illuminated as well as being a SFP scope.

Thanks for the recommendations so far, Ive never even heard of Falcon scopes until I started reading on here.

Re: FVSR Scope recommendations

Please take note falcon scopes dials are a LOT more mushy than the PST. You can certianly help it by wiping out some of the excess grease in the turret cap.
You may want to really consider a tapered base. I use a DIP 25moa and zeroed at 25. I can easily dial 5-100yrds. (i dont know that I could have zeroed without it). PSTs have an OUTSTANDING warranty, better NOD / NV compatible, and they have a better anti reflective glare coating. (i have to wear a ball cap w my falcon when shooting in the sun, glare on sight picture edges)
But the falcon is cheaper

Re: FVSR Scope recommendations

For this particular application I do not intend on using the turrets to account for elevation and/or windage. I plan on building another 10/22 later on in the year and Ill be looking for a good high power tactical style scope for long range plinking as well as one for my 17HMR as the 12x isnt cutting it for 300+ yd shots.

The warranty is one of the big reasons I love Vortex scopes besides the great value on them. I just cant justify 500 for the pst 1-4 on a rimfire right now. Maybe once I get some more guns checked off my want list Ill go back and start upgrading things. The falcon would go well on a 10/22 I plan on building for the wife if I decide to upgrade later on to a higher quality optic.

In all my searches the only thing I couldnt find was any comments on how the 1.5-5 performed in low light situations but it seems its big brother works pretty well in low light.

Re: FVSR Scope recommendations

I bought a FVSR to learn wind correction at my local range which only goes out to 300 yds at a lower cost than shooting my Rem 5r .308
I purchased a Bushnell 3200 Elite 10x for that purpose. I bought a second set of rings for my rifle to mount a Nikon ProStaff 4x32 that I had laying around for plinking at shorter distances when I want to do that. Using Burris Zee Sigtature mounts, I have 20moa added to my Bushnell scope, and 0moa for the Nikon. It doesn't take much of a scope for short distance plinking. I used the same scope to earn a Marksman patch at Appleseed, which was shot at 25yds.

Re: FVSR Scope recommendations

I think Ill try the Falcon for now, every thread Ive found everyone seems to like it for the money. I need to buy a 1-4 pst for my 300blk AR build as well as a 6-24 pst for my 300WSM besides adding to my NFA items. I suppose the list never ends though for people like us.
