Fx120i tips and tricks

I have an Fx120i with auto throw and auto trickler coming in a couple weeks. Plan on ordering the area 419 cup and clear top. Any other tips for using this setup? Thinkin about buying a certified lab quality calibration weight too. How well does the auto throw do with h4350 and varget? It looks like the Lee autothrow i already have and i know when using it with varget it wanted to cut kernels and kinda jam up. Also would leak with powders like cfe223

It does great with 4350 but does try to cut kernels with varget. Overall it is the best piece of realoading equipment I have. The 419 powder cup is great. I also up graded the trickler with the 419 stand.

Thats fine. I don't use ball powders in rifles anymore anyways. Too messy and fine for my liking. Finding i really like SC stick powders like 8208

A little bit about every 10 or so rounds. I rarely load with varget but I loaded 100 fo my brother in law about 30 days ago and it locked up several times.

That’s exactly what I do. I have the powder throw but its more convenient for me to just use my CM for a rough charge then tweak with the auto trickler. Or not even use the auto trickle and do an exact charge on the CM and re-weigh on the FX scale. Tweak load more precisely from there.

I found that by adjusting the tension screw on the autothrow gear has made throwing Varget and H4350 super easy. Out of the box it would get stuck on a kernel every couple throws but once I lossened the screw a quarter turn it eliminated the issue.

I’m currently 2k rounds into a 5k batch of .223 and it’s running smooth as butter.

I find myself using my chargemaster for load development and using the 120i to verify the throws as I have some difficulty’s making fast adjustments with the 120i. But for loading 50-500 rounds it’s such a breeze to use the 120i and made me enjoy this part of the process.

I like my chargemaster but it was too slow. Was gonna buy a second to run both at the same time but figured why have 2 cheap scales when itd be nice to weigh down to the kernel

That's where I was and jumped on the discounted auto throw/trickle set up earlier this year.

My CM hasn't been touched since.

While a 10rd ladder is faster to dispense on the CM, I'd rather spend the few extra minutes on the FX out of the gate and know what I'm actually putting in the case so when it comes time to load multiple rounds at a given charge I'm throwing the same amount.

And once in full production mode, the FX with thrower/trickler is faster, and more precise, than the CM.

At least half that.

For loading ladders and tests it’s still quicker than a chargemaster. Start at your low charge, press stop. Manually trickle up to the next charge level, like 10 seconds, press start and you’re good to go.

I timed mine throwing 8208xbr and averaged about 12 seconds a throw.

I just timed a load, mine was 9 seconds. No need for a lab grade calibration weight that's accurate to the 6th decimal point, just get a cheap calibration weight and keep it for verification. If I work up a load on the fx120i and it says that it's 40.6gr, I don't really care if the load is actually 40.8gr, I just care that the scale throws what it thinks is 40.6gr consistently and quickly.

I got the area 419 cup and self centering tray as well as the base for the auto trickler. To me the tray and cup are well worth the money. There is no guessing game as to where you are going to place the cup, it just slides right in the their tray for perfect placement. May not seem like a lot but i have miss placed the cup a few times causing a stop and clean up.

Here is a 42gr H4350 throw is recorded when I first got mine, much quicker than the CM to me.

I would wager the most useful accessory is the AT base. With its independently rotating feet that allow you to fine tune the auto trickler. I have had good luck with positioning the AT so that it sits just above parallel. It feeds a bit slower that way, but keeps overthrows down. It takes quite a bit of fine tuning.
