GAP-10 range results

I took my GAP-10 to the range for the first time today. The setup is as follows: 308, 18.5 " barrel, fluted, Surefire brake, Nightforce F1. I was shooting 175 grain FGGM ammo.

I shot a 5 round group at 100 yards, which was really me starting to get used to the gun more than anything. Notice it wasn't even zeroed yet. This group measures 1.03" on my calipers. The two shots low are from letting another guy shoot it, and asking him to aim at 6 o'clock.

Next I moved to 200 yards and shot 8 rounds, scope still not zeroed. This measures 2.44"

I shot a 10 round group next and it measures about the same, 2.45". Note the 3 223 holes from the guy next to me that couldn't tell the difference between target frame 38 or 39.

In total I shot 32 rounds. No failures to eject, though my cheesy range only allows you to load one at a time so I couldn't do a real function test. I think the gun has more in it, I just need to get used to it and do my part.

Wow, that's kind of discouraging. I was thinking those rifles should be better than MOA. Any feelings on why it wasn't?

The rifle is more than capable of shooting less than 1 moa and some even have better than 1/2 moa. He prob isnt use to the gun yet.

I agree more time at the range with it and you will probably get better results good luck.

First 32 rounds through the gun and was fighting sweat in my eyes with the 90+ degree heat. If you look at the last target, throw out the two shots that the calipers are on, the group would be well under MOA. I'm more than pleased with that, as I'm willing to bet some (all) of those are my fault. I'll give the barrel a good cleaning and go back for some more groups. These 3 are the only groups that have been through it, along with 7 more rounds spent getting it zeroed.

I have randomly drawn 4 different rifles at different times durring our production and fired them with 168 MK in front of 44 grains of varget and the average of 20 groups and 4 rifles is .630" smallest groups were under 3/8 and largeset was .800ish. These rifles shoot very consistant. Keep in mind shooting a Gas Rifle is nothing like a Bolt Gun, your position and followthrough is paramount for good accuracy.

Those are fighting words around here, lol. Don't clean it too much man otherwise you will be right back to where you started.

I saw Frank shoot a tiny little group with his GAP 10 at the Cup. They will shoot very well. Acquiring one is on my hit list.

Mine weighed 13.0 pounds on my bathroom scale with optics. I'm not going to take the scope off, but Nightforce says 1.9 pounds for the F1. That would work out to about 11.1 pounds without optics.

I am in agree with this statement. I have been shooting mine a lot lately (600-700 rds over the last month and a half) working on the fundementals of shooting this platform and have noticed my groups at 100-300 yds shrinking. I think extreme out-of-the-box accuracy is afforded only to those who have a lot of experience with AR's. I go to this rifle over my bolt 308 (Surgeon Scalpel) because I enjoy the challenge. I too will second this. With the right driver this gas gun will put most bolt guns to shame.

If you are shooting one at a time then make sure you are not moving your cheek weld when chambering another round. And driving a gas gun is a lot harder than a bolt gun. I have no doubt this rifle will shoot better.

13lbs with optics is pretty dam light as far as AR308s go. As with everyone else, shooting a gas gun is a whole new ball game. It really magnifies the shooter's skills, no offense to the OP. My bolt gun is pretty easy to shoot sub-MOA, my LR308 is capable of sub-MOA but takes a whole lot more concentration on my part to do so consistently. I too am trying to work on my basics, I'll be the first to say that I am not that great of a shooter yet.

The recoil pulse is totally different with a semiauto then a bolt gun. Takes a little getting used to

How much experience do you have with shooting Ar-10 systems?

OP,

Since you must load 1 at a time, reload, or get some snap caps. Load them first, and a live round. Part of the grouping you have is the bolt locking to the rear. If you can get a bolt to fully cycle on a closed chamber you will have better groups.

You might want to adjust your optic forward, and set your index point for the cheek weld not of eye relief.

This also is a major driver for group size and is the first issue most have with the AR-10 system.

Nothing against the OP but it was the shooter and he sounds like he knows this already. 32 rounds isn't much trigger time and he'll improve rapidy. During my breakin within 20 rounds fired I was able to pull two 1/2moa groups. The real test for these rifles will be at distance and I'll be shooting mine at 600 & 800 this weekend and I have a hunch that I'll be pleased.

When I was out on a range last thursday had first round hits from 300 - 800 yards.

I'm run a OBR, KAC, and now the GAP10. None of them compare to the GAP10 in function or accuracy in my opinion.

To be clear, the OP (me) had no intent for this to be anything bad towards the GAP-10. It's merely my first time results with the rifle. I perhaps should have noted I have no formal training in precision rifles, so this is all a learning process for me. I however, am not disspaointed this far. Looking back at the day at the range and thinking through it, I now realize things I could have done that would have likely shrunk the groups a little. I don't think ~1 MOA is that bad given my experience with the rifle and in general. I am not offended by the feedback I have gotten and welcome more of it. As I've said, I am here to learn. Maybe AdamXDavis could teach me to hit a playing card at 1000 yards with it?
