Went shooting yesterday to burn up some old ammo. Around round 8 I had a misfire, I tried to eject the round and found it jammed. I got home and gave the bolt a love tap and the brass and powder came out but the bullet stayed in the chamber. I promptly called GAP and asked for Ken. He called back a little while later and said the FBI has been having the same problem with just the 168 grain. Just to give everybody a heads up.

I'd see if the primer cooked off, interesing if it did and the powder didnt ignite.

To be clear--We are talking about one batch of ammo that was having issues with live round extraction. Older batches were confirmed to be working with full function and no issues with live round extraction.

Exactly. I've fired maybe 500-600 rounds of FGMM 168SMK with zero issues. As a matter of fact IMO the FGMM 168SMK factory performs better in the GAP10 then the factory 175SMK.

Obviously this would not be confined to GAP if it's an ammo issue. Do you have a batch number to watch out for? I have a few boxes of this stuff in my stash.

That's not necessarily true. Some chambers are tighter than others which could lead to issues in some manufacturers arms and not all.

GAP-10s are the most accurate semi auto rifles I've ever shot. In fact, most GAP-10s put you in bolt gun accuracy territory. Mine shoots sub .5MOA whenever I do my part and using good ammunition. I couldn't recommend a better 7.62 gas gun.

GAP-10s are the most accurate semi auto rifles I've ever shot. In fact, most GAP-10s put you in bolt gun accuracy territory. Mine shoots sub .5MOA whenever I do my part and using good ammunition. I couldn't recommend a better 7.62 gas gun.

The issue is with a certain lot of FGMM, The ATF not FBI had the issue and went to an older lot and it went away. not sure what it is but I suspect they got a bad batch of bullets or they switched to a different maker, IE Nosler 168 vs Sierra
At any rate its not an issue with all 168. By the way 175's shoot alot better in the GAP-10 anyway :0

My 308 has always ran like a sewing machine, and I would wager not many has had a chance to run dirtier than it.

I bought two boxes of ammo after work one black hills match and one federal gold medal. The black hills will feed , gold medal won't. Both were 168 grain, sorry Josh I will never stray again. The Copper creek shoots as good if not better and is way cheaper especially DICKS at $44 a box ..

Mine has been fed a healthy diet of 118lr with suitable results....But it really shines with a case full of varget and a 155 lapua on top.

Just to update an old thread, I had a few failures to feed with the Fgmm 168's today. Accuracy was great, but had feed issue's.

I just felt like the 168's didn't have enough power to fully cycle the action or something. So far this is the only ammo I've tried. I have some 175 FGMM and a whole bunch of Copper Creek gas gun loads that I will be shooting from now on.

you know...... I just read thru this entire thread and not a single person brought up the point to actually use a hornady bullet comparator set / OAL gauge to see what the actual MAX coal (or OGIVE touching the lands) was for one of the pulled bullets in question in comparison to the seated COAL / "touching the lands OGIVE" of the problematic 168 ammo in question... Did anyone actually do this to see what the actual difference was? It would be the first thing I would do. Especially when one of the guys in this thread said the bullet got stuck on the lands and powder spilled all over the place.
If you have the hornady bullet comparator set & OAL guage & modified case, then you could pull one of the bullets in question, find the max coal using the OAL guage & bullet comparitor set to figure out the "max ogive touching the lands",,,, and then measure the "ogive measurement" of the factory ammo in question. This would tell you right off the bad how it would interact with your GAP rifle...... if the ammo was seated too long or had some funky secant radius that is. Bullets that are not seated deep enough with a funky bullet radius can produce a boat load of problems from obviously the bullet getting rammed into the lands to not cycling correctly.... Just because it fits into your magazine (magazine length) doesn't mean the bullet will not get rammed into the lands.... Case in point, damn near every single bullet I reload for my LMT will fit into magazine with a little room to go before the bullet touches the lands, but for some reason the OGIVE secant radius of SMK gameking is so pronounced that not only is it well below magazine length, but .025 under recommended COAL right out of sierra's manual. It could've been a batch of some funky secant radius bullets loaded too long @ damn near max magazine length. Bad neck tension can also be a bitch.... you have a really expensive kinetic bullet puller in your hands as the round is rammed into the chamber with considerable force... Just some suggestions.

The 168 Grain FGMM I was using was lot # v21j494 if that helps anyone. It also could have been a magazine issue, although I was using the one supplied by GAP. The type of stoppage I experienced was the nose of the bullet was being rammed up against the top of the outside of the chamber causing the bolt not to close. I guess I should have tried a P-mag to see if that made a difference. I will shoot again soon as I want to get on Eflster's list with this rifle. I will report back as soon as I do so. Here's a couple of pics of the casings.

It's not stuck in the lands, there is a carbon ring in the chamber that causes the issue. I went through this with my Gap built AR-10 and was helped out by the guys at GAP. I even posted pics in a thread that shows the carbon ring in the bullet that was stuck in the chamber.
I got a gap10 a few months ago, I had never shot long range or for accuracy before, I'm a novice. The first day out I was shooting 1/2 moa repeatedly. Zeroing at 100 yds made me giggle the rounds all went into one ragged whole. It is an amazing piece of machinery!
