I just figured out how to measure distance in yards on the 701.
Fist, make sure you have WAAS on in your system settings(this should provide more accurate GPS signal.
Next, from the menu page go to "SETUP" then "UNITS" then "DISTANCE" select "YARDS"
You can now mark your target with the GPS by pressing and holding the MARK/ENTER button, a flag with a grid will show up, press MARK/ENTER again to save.
Once you are at your firing position you have two options,
First, Press on hold the GO TO/PAGE button and select the waypoint you created for your target. You will be given range in yards and an azimuth. you can also stop the navigation from thus page by pressing enter and selecting stop nav.
Second, from the map page press Mark/ENTER, select "MEASURE DISTANCE"
You'll want:
FROM: CURRENT
TO: (waypoint you created)
SPEED: doesn't matter
Downside of the second option, it doesn't update the distance if you move.
I haven't figured out how to do it in meters, if you select metric it will only give you km after a certain distance.
