I should be thrilled that this chronograph is finally on sale. I've been planning on purchasing one for quite a while. But I get a little skeptical with a manufacturer sale that appears to be at every retail outlet.

Does anyone have some inside information, or suspect, that Garmin is liquidating stock so that they can then release an improved, updated version?

Does this version do everything you want? You can get it at a good price. Who cares what they are doing?
I do understand that logic. But they could make improvements that would be nice. Perhaps v2.0 has the type of radar that allows velocity detection at multiple distances? Maybe the battery life is doubled? I can certainly be happy owning the current version and saving $50. I just created the post to see if there were any rumors of v2.0 in the pipeline. I figure members of this forum would probably be the first to know. ;)

Well, I'm already glad I posted my original question. I wasn't aware of a possible new, lower priced radar chronograph. Have there been any pre-release reviews of the Athlon unit? My decision making just got harder.

Not that I've seen, just the usual shotshow blurbs when it was announced. Be interesting to see side by side tests of it and how it holds up when weapon mounted.

The Garmin is a proven unit with very few reports of issues. It’s by far the best money I’ve spent on shooting gear since my AutoTrickler setup. If I had to choose between Garmin and Athlon, well that’s a fucking no brainer there. Now factor in a proven unit vs an unproven unit. I paid $599 for my Garmin and after having it for almost a year, I’d have gladly paid $1000. Magnetospeed can suck my ass. Plus, if you get the Garmin you can buy all those gay as fuck “bump covers” and pic rail mounts.

I got mine on sale for $492, delivered to my door. It is worth twice that.

New features are likely to be implemented in SW. One that would be great is BT connectivity to AB Quantum.

Longer-range detection would require more power from the RADAR transmitter, increased processing power, or both. That would come at a substantial increase in cost and also affect battery life. There is no free lunch.
