Gas gun 260 Rem

I've been reading the various 260 vs 308 threads and, as many people conclude, realize that the 260 offers ballistic advantages over the 308. The only thing that's holding me back on getting a 260 gas gun is that I've heard they are much more finicky in gas gun setups, and it's difficult to take advantage of the the high BC bullets due to magazine constraints. The other concern I have is that I'll need to go with a 20" or 22" to really take advantage of the 260 ballistics. For my gas guns, I really hate going over 18" because it reduces the handiness of the rifle.

Is anyone running a 260 with less than a 20" barrel? How bad of a hit ballistically do you take? How finicky are gas guns with various 260 loads, and OAL/feeding issues?

For me, the choice is between a 16 or 18" 308, or a 20" 260. Which option would you go with?

Opinions are pretty mixed so far. Anyone running a 260 gas gun that handloads? How's the reliability?

What is the use of the intended going to be? Strictly long range shooting from bench/prone? How far is a majority of your shooting going to be 300, 600, 800, 1K, 1.2K?

Also, if you are trying to maximize the .260, why aren't you trying to do the same with the .308?

Primary use will be comps. I've got other 308s and frankly I like a lighter, handier 308 for 800 and under than trying to stretch it beyond its reasonable capabilities. I'd like for this gasser to reach out to 1k a bit more ably than the 308 can.

Sounds like you have your answer then.. one other option is the 6.5 grendel, light (AR15 lower), stays supersonic for long time and low recoil. But that is dependant on your targets (paper or metal).

Look at the creedmoor, that should eliminate your mag length problem and give you 260 numbers

If you're really concerned about the longer pills use the 6.5 Creedmoor

The 6.5 Grendel is a good round but the large frame AR's although heavier allow a lot more powder than the 6.5 Grendel
