PRS Talk Gas gun questions

I am looking to try my hand at some PRS matches here at home in Missouri.
Now I will say I am not like some that have a large budget for it, and am also not one to think that I will ever be some title contender.
I'm wanting to get involved to learn and have some fun..and thats it.

So in doing some looking at what I have rifle wise I like the idea of the Gas gun division, I have an AR lower sitting around that I have planned for a while to do a 6mm Arc upper for.
How would the 6 Arc do in this type of shooting?
Again. Just looking to learn and have some fun shooting longer ranges than I have in the past and the proper ways to do them.
If it ends up leading to more in the future thats fine as well.

6 arc is where it's heading but I'd start with 223 as some matches are 223/308 only. Check the rulebooks for quantified performance and whatever orgs you want to use and get something that you can use in everything.

I played the Gas gun division for a couple years, it is a lot of fun. I was running a large frame 6.5 creedmoor I assembled with a lot of JP parts. For someone new coming in and not wanting to throw down a bunch of money into it, I would encourage you to use a 223. Reason being, to do well you need something that is going to feed well and give good precision, 6 ARC's will do this but they don't tend to be the lower cost setups. The 223 market has figured out how to make reliable systems and achieve good accuracy. In other words, It would be more likely to run trouble free and shoot good with less money spent. It'll be hard to see impacts much beyond 600 yards if they are not using hit indicators... so if you can research your home states matches a little and shoot the shorter distance matches that will make it more fun. BUT, you are going to have fun either way.

Really not trying to come off as a dream killer but id stay far away from large frame unless youre going to shell out the $$$. I have yet to see one make it through a one day event without a stoppage. The past couple of matches have been won by 6 Arc that i have attended. I have seen some grendals win as well.

I did two videos on my Seekins SP10, one review and one post match review you might want to watch (see links below). PLEASE don't custom build a gas gun for PRS, you are heading for a headache. I have used the Seekins in five matches now and with the Tactical Brass Recovery System (https://www.tacticalbrassrecovery.com/ DON'T go with anything else.), the rifle has run flawlessly and has easily pinged targets out to 1100 yds (I'll include a holdover video that shows the SP10 in long range action). I get nothing from anyone for telling you all this, I have just learned over the past 4+ years in PRS and want to save new comers money. Next, if you go with a gas gun, stick with either 6.5 CM or 6CM, NO SHORTER CARTRIDGE THAN THAT. No matter what anyone says, my expert gunsmith has told me the challenges with the shorter cartridges in a gas gun, so please avoid that pain. If you go with a bolt gun eventually, get a 6CM, BR, Dasher or BRA and you'll be very happy. I run a 6BRA bolt gun, and it is a workhorse out to 1100 yds with very little recoil. I shot an NRL Hunter match yesterday with a .223 gas gun. I tried the first half of the stages using all holds in my reticle and that went poorly. The targets weren’t tiny and I am sure it’s possible for some but once I went to dialing elevation and holding wind, I went from 3-4 pts per stage to 6-8.

I didn’t feel like I was lacking anything shooting a .223 out to about 680Yds at this match.
