I've been wondering that myself. I'm looking to mount my Nightforce F1 onto my Larue OBR 7.62 and saw this GDI.

I was a bit surprised at the price and have been trying to figure out what makes more than twice the price of a Larue or Bobro.

Not knocking the GDI, am actually quite interested, but just curious what it does that the Larue or Bobro don't... or for that matter the Aadland. (I don't care about marring unless it affects accuracy)

There is a lot of work in the GDI, the locks are consistent and adjust to any rail with out marring them or without needing special tools.

These are more on par with a Spuhr mount which is also a $450+ mount, just not a throw lever, so you really should compare it to that, more so than a Larue or Bobro. Sure you can say they do the same thing but so does a Ford when you compare it to a Mercedes.

Being able to add the mounting plate to any one of the four positions, that is another feature not found in the other mounts discussed, which is found in the Spuhr.

It's not designed for everyone, and it's not marketed to everyone, so if you can't afford it, simply move on and get what you can. It's not a big deal.

But when it comes to me personally using a mount of this type, I use the GDI, or I use the Spuhr.

You can walk around and find Larue mounts that have loosened up all the time, the front lever is not captured, they require a special tool and over tightening them results in a damaged rail. Pretty easy if you ask me.

I wonder why Larue doesn't make the front lever the same as the rear... I find that so strange.

LL just found another post you made on the GDI mount. Which makes me wonder about the "other" mounts. Didn't realize they were specd out for 300 yards.

I'm having a hard time finding actual non-biased repeatability tests on Larue mounts.

You know, at the intro price of $350, it's only $100 more than the Larue or Bobro, and if it really is the cream of the crop in repeatability, shoot, put me down for a few at that price.

(Anyone know if you're limited to ordering only one?)

I never said I couldn't afford it. I just want to know what makes something have such a value to it. I have a 3000.00 FN Scar 17s, so I think I can afford it. I just like to be educated in what I am spending my cash on...

I am doing a comparison video, I have everything mounted up and initially zeroed the weather just hasn't been cooperating for me. But I have 2 Larue and 2 GDI ready to roll.

If you look at the progression of the throw lever mount, it is really for the assaulter on an M4, all they really did was take that design and added it to a longer range weapon system, but really it was never meant for that. The GDI was specifically designed to address a precision rifle so that the repeatability matched the accuracy of the system it was being used with.

Another factor, the vertical rings on the Larue, is not optimal for a shooter in the prone behind the rifle. It's right there where your adjustment falls. Which is why mounts like the Spuhr or GDI make sure they don't block the view from the rear. With an M4 it doesn't matter, with a precision rifle it does.

The final factor with the GDI is, being new, they are using pretty expensive state of the art machines which will drive the cost up a bit but aids in consistency. It may not be a huge factor but it is definitely a cost factor when you're starting out.

Mine is due to ship out the 17th. Ive been thinking of asking to change mine to a 34mm from the 30 I ordered. I really should have ordered one of each with the sale price (sigh)

Only you can answer that...

the object is to have a one mount solution for multiple systems, if you don't have another rifle to move it too, then yes. If the idea is to permanently mount one of those scopes, then why not use a more permanent solution ?

Don't know what you plans are, a Scar alone isn't enough to say.

Right now, I have my NXS mounted in the American Defense Recon mount. It has never failed or given me any issues and it was only $189.

So, why have i purchased the GDI mount? I have purchased the GDI mount because I believe it to be the best mount on the market and I like knowing that no matter what, my gear is good to go.

Although it is highly unlikely that I will need to rely on its ruggedness, it feels to know know that this mount can and will take any abuse I could put it through and at the end of the day, maintain its accuracy.

I have looked at several IOR's but they are 35mm and yours says 34mm, do I take it won't work on anything that's not a 30mm or 34mm???

I personally witnessed a GDI PROM-L mount on a 7WSM hit a one minute target at 1000 yards and continue to hit the target while being removed and reattached in between rounds.

I wouldn't recommend an IOR anyway, but feel free to purchase any scope you like.

the NF would be a better choice.

Can this mount not be reversed? If I mount it on a Scar with the charging handle on left side. The levers will be in the way.

but on a flat top semi I would get one with a cant built in, more flexibility

Just got the same email from Kate and the pending shippments of the P-ROM 25MOA mounts very excited. Have had them on order for somthing like 3 months. I am replacing all of my LaRue mounts from the LT104's down to my LT660's mounts.

LaRue has final worn on me with the loosening and Zeroing issues not to mention the marring.

You don't "need" a cant but if you're shooting beyond 1000yds, the added elevation is very helpful. I opted for the 0MOA because it's mounted on my P308 and I won't be shooting beyond 700yds, simply because there's nowhere around that I would be shooting that far. If you're mounting the GDI on something like a .338 LM, Cheytac, .50 BMG or other extended long range rifle then you definitely want the 25 MOA model.

Well, as Lowlight stated, these mounted are intended to be used on a precision rifle so it may not be what you're wanting. That being said, if you look real closely at the levers, they are pretty low profile which I doubt would be an issue but that is merely speculation.

It goes without saying that $350-$500 is a lot to spend in a mount, especially for it to arrive and you not like it or it not work for your application. I don't see why you couldn't flip the 0MOA mount around so the levers would be on the right side of the rifle and that may be an option for you.

My S&B 3-12X50 on the MWS sits at 1- 3/8s to the center of the objective. There is exactly 1/4" from the top of the rail to the bottom of the objective.
