Geissele rail survey: Mk4 or Mk8, black or DDC

You might have seen in some previous posts: I am a big fan of the Geissele rails. For that matter, I think I like just about anything Bill comes up with. I will admit, that while the Mk4 and Mk8 designs are different (as well as their cousins, the Mk13 and Mk14), I don't really have a big opinion one way or the other.

I am curious what others think: Do you like Mk4 and its forward railed portions, or the Mk8 and its smaller, rounder look? Do you even like the Mk13 or Mk14? If you have to choose one, which would it be, and would your choice change as you look at 9.5" (aka Mk18), 13" or 15" ? Do you like the DDC, or stick to black?

I'd read up on their version of desert before going that route. It's my understanding it doesn't match up with other manufacturers FDE.

absolutely correct. It is -- like Daniel Defense -- a dye in the anodizing process. It is lighter than FDE, while DD's version was darker.

New to using Geissele rails but I absolutely love the Mk4. I prefer the forward rails as a permanent attachment points for lights, bipods etc. I prefer one item being attached to rail rather than item, attached to accessory mount, attached to rail.
I am also at the point of it is says Geissele I will buy it due to incredible quality and engineering.

I went Mk8 because I didn't have a need for the extra rails on the Mk4. I mounted a light to the top rail using an offset mount. If I needed to mount a laser designator I would probably went Mk4.

I just ordered a Mk13, which is a lower profile in the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions than either of the Mk 4 or Mk 8. But I also loved my ALG rails, so that influenced me.
