Gen 2 Ranch 7.62x39 Issues

I'm in the process of trying to return this 7.62x39 Gen 2 Ruger ranch for warranty. Anybody care to speculate on the odds of this being covered under warranty? I have never had a new rifle push the primer out because of the headspacing, or a chamber mark the brass up this much... Not sure what I should expect but this ain't it.

SAME BOX of S&B ammo works flawlessly in SKS and Type 81. No pressure signs or primer ejection.

1. failure to extract live rounds - Fixed by me
2. Headspacing/chamber tolerance issues causing the primer to extrude after firing.
3. Chamber quality issues. Poor / Rough reamer job leaving concentric grooves in the fired brass.

Is the chamber on this gun excessively loose? Is the rough chamber preventing the brass from fireforming back into the bolt?

I would try a different ammo before sending it back. Possible that its an ammo issue. But, the marks from the chamber do not look good.

i sent a ruger ranch in 300blk back not long ago for weak ejection and they replaced the barrel and bolt , they are pretty quick on their turn around time also

I have been emailing weekly. I believe they have replaced the barrel, muzzle brake, and extractor. Apparently it takes about a week to change an extractor and currently 1.5 weeks and counting to test fire the rifle...

Ended up going over Gravel agency and straight to Ruger international. I voiced some concerns with the QC, and the speed at which the repair was being completed.

Outcome: I have been approved for a replacement Rifle. I just have to wait for it to come in now.

No gauges. The rifle was sent back for warranty ASAP in May.

Not surprising at all. The American series are junk. It's a shit copy of a t3.

People are always surprised when a 500 dollar rifle doesn't live up to their 1500 dollar expectations.

500 bucks isn't much these days. The same as 300 bucks back in 2004. All the American manufacturers are in a race to the bottom because Americans love cheap flashy junk.

Well, I think it's reasonable to A: Expect a gun to work and B: if it doesn't work, have a decent warranty system.

People shit on vortex optics. but when I had 1 of mine fail. I drove 45 minutes to the Canadian office and gave them the broken one in return for a brand-new one. That's how a warranty should be. This Ruger warranty process is a complete jerk around. I get that regardless of brand, some products will have failures. the issue is when they can't be bothered to get me a replacement, and instead prioritize allocating the production towards new sales.

You aren't wrong about the cheap flashy junk. The Gen 2 felt worse than the Gen 1 I had. Not sure if you are insinuating that I expect a $1500 gun level of quality or not. But a rifle that extracts live rounds, isn't something specific to $1500 guns.

I couldn't care less as I'm not Canadian. The Canadians love cheap junk too. In fact they may love it even more than Americans do.

Most people on this forum are in the minority of gun owners who actually know about rifles, optics and legitimate shooting. My comment doesn't really apply to them.

That sounds frustrating. I wonder if Ruger had a problem with a bad batch or something, and are trying to figure out how to fix them all.

I had a Gen1 RAR 5.56. At the time, I was looking for a low cost rifle for traveling, and a 1:8 twist barrel, It was maybe a 1.5 MOA gun on a good day, so I sold it, and picked up a Remington 783 in 223. The first one shot horrible but Remington sent me a replacement, and it is a solid 3/4 MOA shooter.

I kept trying to talk myself into buying a gen 2 but every time I picked one up off a rack it just felt like such an epic POS. The last batch my local dealer got in a couple weeks back had bolts that sound like zippers like the gen 1’s and lots of reports lately of poor accuracy so it seems like they’re cutting corners. The chamber on your rifle looks like absolute dog shit. I get that these things are CNC’d but an inspection process let alone the firing process (if they inspect the brass at all) should have caught that and it should have never went out the door.

Considering that the rifle does look good and the average buyer has no real understanding of a quality rifle and are generally just happy with the thing hitting anywhere on a paper target I’m sure they will sell a shit load of these just like they did with the gen 1’s that are also crap.

The comment about Americans liking cheap flashy junk isn’t wrong. Look at Amazon and all the cheap imported shit they put out if you want a shining example of this. Most consumers don’t know quality from their asshole and are perfectly happy with gimmicky shit that doesn’t work.

I expected a gun that works. I don't think that is unreasonable. I have 2k rounds of surplus x39 and wanted a bolt action to throw it at steel plates with.

A gun that can't extract live rounds is just wild to me. and like you said the chamber being that dogshit is nuts.

I have had a bunch of savages that cost less and work better. I also have had a couple Howa's that cost the same or less and shot fantastic...

I will never buy another Ruger. I want the warranty replacement back so I can sell it at a loss and buy a Howa that doesn't suck ass.

The part I find hard to believe is that in most of the firearm community a Remington, Ruger, Winchester, Mossberg etc. is fine. and a Savage is the "cheap" option. In reality, I don't know if I will ever go for lower quality than a Tikka or Bergara... I got on the hype train for the CZ 600 series with interchangeable barrels. However since there is no aftermarket support, and the barrels are not available. It's also ruled out for me.

If you’re disappointed with the Ruger and their CS don’t buy a Bergara. I’ve bought 3 and sent all 3 back for issues. The last one they didn’t even fix and had to threaten to sue them to get them to make it right. It also sat there for 2 months before they looked at it because their repair department is so backed up because of all the trash rifles that get sent back.

I actually just bought a Savage 110 that was deeply discounted and I’m not disappointed with it he. I’m even considering the tactical or switchback in 6ARC for a cheap blaster.

The thing with factory (and customs even) rifles is there’s always a chance of getting a lemon. Some have higher rates than others but it doesn’t even seem to make a difference of the price point. Look at what pieces of shit Christensen and Fierce rifles are and how many times you hear about problems with them and they aren’t cheap rifles. They also both have shit CS.

The biggest problem I see here is that they effectively took 3 months to accept that your rifle needed replacement and to initiate that process and it was only you lit a fire under their ass by going around them. The fact your international complicates things which is understandable and they’re aware of which should be more of a reason to try to put a priority on those warranty returns to get it back in a reasonable time. There’s no reason the decision to replace your rifle couldn’t have been sooner.

I received my replacement rifle. and it's garbage again. below is my response.

The TLDR: The new gun has stripped threads in the receiver. I emailed Ruger international in a less professional manner than before because I'm frustrated.

Unfortunately, this rifle came with more issues. The threaded holes in the top of the action or very poorly tapped. I am referring to the fasteners that secure the scope rail to the action. 1 of them will not tighten beyond 2-inch pounds. The others I set to 12 inch pounds and they did not feel good. I believe the issue is that the machine which drills the holes and the subsequent machining action that taps the holes is not correct. There is noticeable fore-aft directional play in the screw when it is installed finger-tight into the action.

The cerakote on the barrel also looked to have issues. there appeared to be exposed metal.

Again, I purchased the original rifle in May. Waited until October for a replacement. and now the replacement you've sent me is also junk. Can I please just get my money back? I don't want a Ruger anymore if this is the quality of service and equipment that I receive. I have, and continue to document this on forums because it's pretty incredible how long a process this is. and to receive yet another bad Ruger is almost comical if it wasn't for the ~$950+ CAD investment.

If you have someone who can actually help me, instead of the glacial speed gravel agency. and ultra generic "this is our process" emails that would be great.

I expect an expedited replacement that, unlike the previous firearms, has quality control performed on it.
