Rifle Scopes Gen 2 razor is too heavy...

Currently have a vortex gen 2 razor. Despite how disappointed I've been with other vortex stuff, I actually really love the gen 2. Onky problem is the weight. I'm giving up a solid pound compared to other scopes and ready to get rid of it.

Question is, where do I go from here? I doubt I'll get even close to my money back out of the vortex so that kinda hurts. Is there anything out there with comparable glass and reliability without spending a ton more money?

Logical choice would be to get a used Vortex AMG. Basically exactly what you are asking for: G2 but over a pound lighter.

You’re going to take a hit getting rid of it but do it before the new reticle options are available if your going to. I see them going on here for ~$1650 right now. It was $1800+ a couple months ago...

Best bet is to try to find someone who wants to trade an AMG. Fairly common to find someone who wants to add weight to their prs build and stay in the same price tier.

You are running an AI chassis and 40" barrel w/ the can. I dont think you are going to notice the weight difference if you get a scope that's a pound lighter. Unless you just want to get a scope with better optical performance, I wouldnt change it.

If you're willing to jump brands, look at the Bushnell XRS2 and DMR2 Pro.

a buddy of mine just sold a razor off his JAllen/26" M24 contour and is using a Cronus BTR to hold him over until his new TT comes in.

noticeable difference in the overall weight of the rifle for sure. I shot it yesterday and could tell instantly his rifle felt different.

It's a KRG x-ray which is just over 3lbs

the guy i was responding to said he had an AI chassis with 40" barrel/suppressor combo so why was he concerned about weight

Nice setup. AMG makes a ton of sense. Cronus isn't a bad option, but you're probably sacrificing glass just a hair.

Razor Gen 2 prices have dropped like a rock recently and I expect them to continue to fall until they're in the $1500 range for a 1C reticle and $1600 for a 2C. Right now you can get a 2C for $1800 brand new, so that and the new 7C reticle are driving used prices down.

There's nothing wrong with the G2 optically or mechanically. It's just heavy...and that doesn't matter to everyone. Some folks even consider it a plus.

Yea I really do like it, just not the weight. I wasnt too concerned with weight until I lugged it through the mountains for 9 days.

Now I'm going to try to drop a lb there and sell the krg chassis and get a carbon fiber stock of some sort. Prolly lose my ass in both haha

Can I ask why you want a lighter scope? Doesnt look like your rifle is a hunting rig but I walk a fair bit with my ESS chassis around the area we hunt so some people do carry heavy rigs occasionally.
I'm currently going over the pro's and cons of the Cronus, ETR, Optika 6 and Gen 2 Razor as I want the best scope for the money.

Looks like you already have it but optically it's not streets ahead of the Cronus from what I read here but it is better.

It may be worth seeking a second hand Cronus before selling the Razor if you can stretch that far then you can make your own mind up and sell the one you don't want. Or keep them both....

Yea def not a dedicated hunting rig, but if I got a lb lighter scope and a 1-2lb light stock, it'd a helluva hunting rig. That's kinda my goal. I might see if I can an find an even trade for a cronus btr, seems like the most economical route

That's a long ass barrel to carry!
A stock would make a huge difference especially if you have flush cups on the side and one of those TAB biathlon slings.... you may not need the drop in scope weight....

Not to mention the 12 foot suppressor.
Any longer than a 26" total barrel length (including suppressor or brake) is pretty cumbersome for a hunting rifle.

You may be disappointed if you shed too much weight, extra weight makes the rifle a heck of a lot more stable when shooting from a supported prone position. Change the stock and reduce the barrel length and try it out, you may decide to keep the Razor.

Yea, if I'm walking much, I'll take the can off. Then only a 28" barrel to deal with.
