I expect a lot of his former students are here.
Gene Anderson was recruited in 1976 from the Pennsylvania gunsmithing school where he was an instructor.
He came to Troy North Carolina to establish the gunsmithing program at Montgomery Technical Institute, now Montgomery Community College. This was a bold move. A small local school starting a new program that was found nowhere in the state, but Pennsylvania and Colorado could do it why not Troy North Carolina.
He and Pete Erdner and Russ Holmes started the program from the ground up
Gene taught day and night classes for 23 years he was a master of the wood stock, almost a lost art these days.
Over the years he helped thousands of students turn stock blanks of walnut and Mauser actions into custom show pieces. Several of his former students became instructors and continued the program. Walt Hinze and Wayne Bernauer come to mind.
Gene died July 12, 2021, at 82 in Biscoe NC
Some of you will have been his student or came after in the program he created. His legacy is all the lives he touched and all the knowledge he passed on that is still being passed on.
