Read that actor Gene Hackman yes Popeye Doyle from the French Connection films was found dead with his wife and one of their dogs in their home in New Mexico. Investigation ongoing. He and Robert Duvall are two of my favorites.

When this was mentioned in the Porta John I figured that it was carbon monoxide. Looks like the fire department has semi ruled that out. He was found in the entry way to the house and she was in a bathroom. They didn't say where they found the dog. The link also says that they were dead for a while before being found by maintenance.

I also heard a report that the police found a prescription pill bottle on the counter and the contents spread out on the counter.

Saw a quick blurb that the dog was found in a closet. But, it's being reported by msm, so who knows ?

I don't think that it's common for a murder suicide that they kill the family pet. Maybe it is and just not reported by the media. That was why I figured it was carbon monoxide. The fire departments I've delt with all had pretty good CO detectors and when a suspected issue with CO they were anal about testing.
IF it was a murder suicide I wonder what brought it on. Financial, medical? His wife was 65 years old and he was 95.

A quick search shows that killing the family pet in a murder suicide or just suicide is not a statistic that is easily found. Seems like the only information available is from news reports that included it. Which is very few. The study I read only found 37 cases in a ten year timeframe where it was reported. In every case the family pet was also killed. So it could be pretty common.

And.....they were "dog lovers" (I get it :)). Apparently, they had three and supposedly all three were GSDs. The other two were found alive and roaming the grounds.

I could see where a man of his age might decide to punch out, but I would think he wouldn't want anyone else to go with him.

I also saw a blurb that implied that the FD sniffed the dwelling and found nothing to indicate CO was, or had been present in the residence. But I'm a neophyte on the subject and it's the msm doing their usual patchwork shitty job of explaining things.

I think it'll fall together pretty quickly once the Tox reports come back. My woman's intuition causes me to still lean in the direction of him committing suicide. But, I can't rectify her and the one (of three) dog(s). If they had a pact together, I'd think it would include all three dogs, not just one.

Conversely, I have the distinct impression that he was a proud man. So much so that I wouldn't think he would allow harm to come to her and the dog. Maybe he offed himself, she found him and decided that she and the dog should jump on the train to Valhalla along with him. eg; her on the floor of the bathroom and the pills "scattered around". But, that begs the question of what did he and the dog died from ?

Just a wild ass guess. If they found out that she had some kind of terminal cancer he may have decided to end it for the both of them.
Probably something we may never know but the infatuation with celebrities may drive someone to dig into it.

Good point/speculation about her. I could see that as a possibility.

Here's one. He just falls over dead at 94. Heartbroken, she commits suicide. The dogs bad luck was just being shut up with no water for too long in a very arid climate. The two healthy dogs found outside were lucky.
