Get out and shoot

excellent idea!

Or, put your pack on and get a half day in making sure you're not gonna have hot spots and all your shit still fits your "fall" body. (Edward's Point, Chattanooga yesterday) You could carry some if that ammo you bought!

best t go shoot, make sure your go pack and rifles are ready, Tuesday approaches and I think there is a better than even chance we will see another DEc 9th 2016 meltdown and unhinged violence by the left. prepare to defend yourself your neighborhood, your family and your property.

Hoping for a epic Wednesday, hoping the cities and every university burns to the ground.

My wife’s birthday is Wednesday, and she would LOVE to see a blue meltdown Tuesday night and Wednesday morning for a birthday gift.

Despite the slight fog from last night...it is a great day in New England

Get out and blast some targets and then..

BUY AND MAKE MORE AMMO

FIFY.

Reloading the last of a batch of 147gn Berrys RN . Then do a couple test batches on some cast powder coated 124gn . Then a few more test loads on .223 55gn .
In between some AR dry fire . Man it is a beautiful fall day . My club has lights for night shooting and this is shaping up to be one of those nights by myself at night on the range . Nothing more peaceful .

Took my 11yr old boy out earlier and put him behind the 16" Larue .308. First hand full of shots were everywhere but he settled in after a bit and shot better. 100yd target, some of the shots are mine to sight it in. He went 5-5 @ 200yds with his last 5 rounds. Youngest boy, 8, hit some golf balls @25yds with the 17hmr. Proud of them!

The wife and I did our first two gun. I was 10 for 10 at both 600 and 500. She was 9 for 10 and I believe 10 for 10 at 600 and 500 as well. Had issues at the closer distances as the positioning and time constraints were not good for the heavy bolt action. Brought the wrong tool. Didn't know, but it was a lot of fun.

300 yds, doing some load development with a capped mil dot scope. The red circle is point of aim 1.4 mils above expected point of impact.....

43.6 and the numbers are about 2700 with a 168 .308 SMK. I think that is where I want to be.

Are you going to play with seating depth?

Are you going to play with seating depth?

Probably not.

I have them set about FGMM length now.

Ill check and confirm.

The Rem 700 has so much throat I expect those rounds go skidding through space before they come into contact with any lands or grooves but somehow those SMKs can handle the responsibility all right.

I find i am moving away from the prs type shooting to something more practical, as i wear out barrels I am switching over to 308. will keep my TL3 in 6.5 and my 300 LRI long range build but the rest are going 308 or 223. Any conflagration I will be forced into will be done with 308 and 556

You will never be able to shoot beyond 800 yards and your 5.56 will not kill anything. Suppose you will go full retard and use .45 ACP for a pistol. everyone knows the 9mm smokes .45 ACP.

what does 9mm mean, you gddam kids and your new fangled toys.

308, 556 has been good enough for Iraq and Afgan, we have very little terrain that would even require a 300WM

is that an 03?

Close, basically a changed for commercial production Springfield 03 so that a profit could be made. Not being an armory the producer had to be concerned with costs....

Winchester Model 70, Douglas Barrel, Lyman sights, 10X Unertl external mount in hand to give it some Carlos Hathcock appeal but Im liking my capped turret mil dot scopes for simplicity these days.

Less laying on your belly, more carbine run and gun drills. It's guaranteed that's what the ammo you've been buying will be used for; not some 800 yard shot or some shit.

Cardio, more cardio, shooting while you just ran 250 yards over broken ground with your gear on, shoot, then some more cardio. Did I mention cardio? But you have another 200 yard leg to run now. Oh you want to be a bolt gun gangster? Well, you get to lug that shit with you as well then. You're tired? Nobody cares. Your knee hurts? I cant find anyone that gives a shit about that either. You're too old? Well, figure that shit out old man. You're fat? Well, stop being fucking fat.

Now go do it at night.

I have a drill I ran today that doesn't look hard but by the time you're done you've ran more than .6 mile in all your gear over completely broken terrain, and shot from multiple positions with a carbine at a 40% IPSC out to 250 yards and had to do reloads and transition to pistol, on the fly. If interested, I can post it; all you need is a few sticks/T posts and 1 or 2 steel plates. I'm willing to bet after the 2nd portion, 90% of shooters would just stop right there and not finish it.

Baaah no shooting for me this weekend. All wood cutting and chimney sweeping out ahead of a snow storm. Running saws is good fun tho and throwing logs around a great workout. Dropping a big dougie can sure get the blood up.

Good news tho, my neighbor who I'm pretty good friends with worked on his libby wife until she gave him the blessing to take his 7yo son out shooting with me. They'll have a gun in that house yet... I felt bad I couldn't make it happen today but by the time we talked it was getting dark and starting to snow.

Anyway, enjoying the first indoor fire of the season.

lov the model 70 myself

Love'm as well. Haven't shot for over a week, but looking forward to it. This funny gun was my Dad's. I haven't loaded for it since 1980. It shot 175 speers just fine for a hunting rifle. It's the gun that got me going all the way out to 400 yards or so. Dad thought that was "silly". It kinda was. :p

Hope the stamp on the barrel shows up. Thing operates like nothing else I own. I'm not 100% on this one, built in either 60's or very early 70's.

Gotta get the ole girl up n running. Never been able to find much info/history on these. Probably bargain basement at the time, but shoots n operstes pretty darn good.

Edit. It's a Model 53, I had sworn it was stamped 55. Bad eyes. Good lord. Anyhow, it's like I thought, low end Ted Williams Mod 70 built in the 60's. I zoomed in on my own pic and could make the number out due to angle and flash.

I have a lot of .308, though not in your league I am sure. It has definite advantages in terms of commonality. I also have a lot of 5.56 although I also have a LOT of 6.8 SPC. That round is really interesting. It is much more capable as far as terminal ballistics is concerned than the 5.56.

I don't have a long action cartridge as I have shot my 6.5 CM out to 1,400 yards on IPSC torso targets. However, hitting a steel plate at 1,400 yards means little. I have repeatedly thought about building a long action rifle to have a cartridge with excellent terminal ballistics at LONG distances.

378y groups held about 1.5" on steel. 600y looked 3-4" minus some that were dragged around by the gusty winds this morning. I only got two on paper before the wind pulled my last paper target off the frame. A nice pair to cherry pick though, both shots felt and recoiled perfectly, I came home and order another 1k 140 blems from Misouth though.

I am half way with Jerry on calibre, I am sure glad no one bought my LRI built 308 when it was for sale. But I sure don't mind burning up these 300 dollar remage barrels with 6.5s, 6mms and 22-250s.

Running out of factory ammo so I went out and tested my first .308 handloads at 100 yards:

I don't have a chrono yet, and honestly I'm just working on fundamentals, so I just need something that will be reasonably consistent.

I did my shooting on Saturday...and butchering on Sunday. Gotta love the wilds of Montana; absolutely stunning views and massive amounts of game everywhere (hence this was "shooting" not really "hunting", and was intended to fill the freezer).

BZ to the Abel table guys. Made this shot at 260yds off of it (Ruger 6.5CM, 143gr ELD-X, hidden behind some round hay bales with a Weibad Tac pillow bungee'ed to it, on top of a Feisol CF tripod), and had my buddy's girlfriend do the same on her doe (253yds with a 7x57mm, from the corner of the hay bale lot). Made a handy seat as well when glassing the various herds of deer, and watching a 5x5 duking it out with a younger buck. Good times.
