I've read and read and did review after review on the stocks out there. While I know it comes down to MY decision, I would like some input from you guys. I have a Savage 10 FCP-SR .308. I've looked at the Choate, McMillan, H-S, and Bell and Carlson. I see the McMillan would be the best choice in MY opinion, but I don't feel comfortable about sending my rifle out, never have. Possibly could let gunsmith do the fitting. The price is the other thing about the McMillan, twice as much as the others. With the Choate, H-S, and B&C being cheaper, what would you recommend? I'm looking for a tactical/target model, with adjustable cheek rest. If you own a Savage model 10, especially the FCP-SR, definitely chime in on what you did. I somewhat like the feel of the accu-stock, and thought just about adding a Karsten Cheek Rest, but I want a wider front as well. So that brought me to wanting to change the stock. I had this Savage and a Rem 700 in my hand, went with the Savage cuz it already had DBM, 20 MOA rail, and threaded barrel, and would cost way more to do those to a rem. But the stock option for Rem are crazy, like a Ruger 10/22. But I'm sticking with my rifle, so please help. And yes, I'm a newb to shooting scoped rifles, but not in guns in general, so I joined SH a while ago, so sorry if I get things wrong or seem I don't know what I'm talking about. I'm learning and trying! Thanks

I'm in the same boat, sort of. I have the same rifle and can't stand the stock, I actually took it off and put it on a 223AI. I like the Manners T2A or T4A, but I have an AX chassis and a Cadex chassis and have become spoiled by the adjustment. I'm somewhat worried about finding out the hard way that I won't be comfortable behind a stock any more. I was actually leaning toward the Choate because of its price, but the more I think about it I think the XLR Carbon is what is going to end up on this rifle.

I have the JP Enterprises AMCS on my Rem 700 5R .308. It was my first time to "customize" a rifle like that. I was looking for a stock that had an adjustable cheek rest, adjustable LOP, and a pistol grip with a handrest. All three of those things helps me with consistently getting in the exact same place behind the rifle every time. The JP chassis has the Magpul PRS stock which is adjustable, and the pistol grip with handrest that I wanted. I also started shooting AR's quite a bit, and the AMCS gives the same feel. It is on the expensive side, but I really like it. They only make it for the Rem 700 and Savage 10 so you're in luck.

JP - Advanced Modular Chassis System™

Lencomatt, the XLR chassis, I looked and it says it fits the FCP-K, not the SR. The difference is from what savage said, the K has a btm bolt release and the SR is a side bolt release, so it won't accept the same chassis. Have you tried the XLR?

No, I have the top as well, but the XLR said that their stock fits savage FCP-K. I called savage to find the difference, they said that the K has the bottom release, whereas the SR has top. The K cannot take the 10 rd mags. So therefore the same stocks cannot be used. So I didn't see how the XLR would fit the SR we have.

Looked at the JP, very nice, as is the McCrees. The JP is about the some $ as the McMillan though. So the McCree is a definate choice. I forgot to mention that I really wanted a pistol grip stock with adj cheek rest. Being in the Marine Corps, everything I shot had a pistol grip, so Ive come accustomed to shooting with one. It's quite a change shooting without, but I can still manage. Imma look deeper into these stock choices, already called couple places. Any other choices, throw them out there. Lencomatt, sent you a PM btw.
