giraud vs gracey

Re: giraud vs gracey

I hear that the Gracey is a bitch to adjust, and Giraud makes upgrades for the Gracey that are standard on his trimmer, I bought a Giraud, it is the best piece of reloading gear ever, replace the jam nut on the case holder with a Forster or Hornady lock ring and rock on!

Re: giraud vs gracey

I own a Gracey and have used it for maybe 15 years now. It is fast, easily adjusted and works dynamite. Like an electric pencil sharpener for brass.

Cons, if you are gonna do serious volume your fingers will be worn out from pressing the brass into the insert. Two, the lubrication system with the oilite bushing is a pita. Get it wet and you better find some paper or something to cover it with or it will sling some around.

I have been pleased with mine however; it has worked well, never gave me any shit and is a brass trimming SOB. I can trim ten cases a minute with no problem. Stick the brass in, give it a quarter turn and done.

I have seen the Giraud in action, and I now consider the Gracey old technology. It gets the job done, but the Giraud is now the better option. When I bought my Gracey it was really the only game in town sans the Dillon, and running a vac attached to the Dillon unit was not something I wanted in the loading room.

Re: giraud vs gracey

The Gracey is less expensive, but it is older technology. I have had my Gracey for about nine years, and it runs like a champ, but it is unsophisticated. For instance, you turn it off by unplugging it, and you have to oil it. If I were buying today, I would go for the Giraud.

Giraud. I bought one last year and its awesome. cuts really quick, even does a good job on the big 50bmg cases. Has a switch to turn it off and requires basically no maintenance except vacuming the chips out ever few sessions.

Re: giraud vs gracey

I have owned both. The Giraud is the only one on the bench now. In my opinion there really is no better way to do large numbers of brass than with the Giraud. It takes about 3 seconds each.

Re: giraud vs gracey

I just processed 12K of .223 with the Giraud. I averaged about 800 an hour. I went a little slower. I used a leather glove on the hand which holds the case. It really helps.

I would work for about 3 hours then clean it out. Pretty easy and your right back to work.

To change out to another caliber is a simple job. It cuts, it chamfers and deburrs at the same time.

Very nice - Buy once, cry once.

Re: giraud vs gracey

I just broke down and bought another cutter head. i had one that I was adjusting back and forth from .22 cal to .308 but that gets old after a while. I would recommend buying the major cutter heads you need right off the bat, .22 and 308 are probably used the most for me. Now switching will only take me about 45 seconds. before it would take 5-10 minutes and I would ruin about 2 cases.

Re: giraud vs gracey

Giraud all the way. Three cutter heads and trim dies for .308, 35-06, .223, 22-250, and .50 BMG. One of the best investments on my bench. I have never used the Gracy, but know people who have for years without complaint. I have used the Dillon 1200 trimmer. For several reasons, I have decided to keep my brass trimming off press.

Re: giraud vs gracey

I have owned/used both, and the Giraud is the better of the machines. Actually, the Gracey I had is the one that Doug worked over and is now pictured on his site, and his trimmer is still a much nicer overall machine.

Re: giraud vs gracey

I just got my giraud in 20 mins ago.....I'm surprised the Feds haven't outlawed them due to how easy it makes the brass process!

Just curious what does everyone have their giraud set to on .308 brass? It came from the factory setup to do 2.000. Do you guys keep it there or adjust it out closer to 2.005?

Re: giraud vs gracey

Giraud is all I have experience with but when I researched it the
same things were said about it being newer technology so that
what's I bought.

Re: giraud vs gracey

If this doesn't sale you on the Giraud I don't know what to tell you...
