Rifle Scopes Glass differences in vortex gII from ebr2c to ebr 7c

I recently traded my 2c 4.5-27 for a 7c. Not sure if it’s buyers remorse or not but my 2c sure seemed more clear. When there is a lot of wind my 7c scope gets very blurry and I never noticed that with my 2c. I know when they came out with the 7c they dropped the price around 500.00. Did they happen to cheapen the glass at that time?

Interested in this as well ... Have a 7c and am not totally thrilled with the glass. My only Vortex comparison is an older Gen2 1-6 on my 3 Gun rifle that is much clearer. Apples and oranges I know but would like to understand it.

I believe some of coatings have changed over time with the gen 2, if you look at the objective lense at an angle some are green and some are red ish color. I forget which was the older gen.

I doubt they changed the glass. It could be a couple things. I have found on ffp scopes that getting the diopter setting fine tuned can make a fair amount of difference in the perception of image quality.

It could also just be sample variation. I have been behind several G2 Razors and I have noticed that they range from good to very good glass. None have been bad, but some have definitely been noticably better than others. My neighbor has one that is very good and another friend has one that is not so impressive. I have an XTR ii that is better than the poorer one. It was sent back to Vortex and said to fall within spec. It is still good. I just got lucky and got a really exceptional sample of the xtr ii.

I would play with the diopter setting and see if things improve. If not I would send it to Vortex and have them check it out. They have been very helpful every time I have had an issue.

Are you saying when you dial a lot of windage the clarity gets more poor or just that when it’s windy outside the clarity is more poor... mirage could be playing a factor in what you are seeing through the scope. I would say readjust your diopter and try again.

When the wind blows, yes it’s like a mirage but a lot worse now than I noticed before

Do you have a sunshade installed on your scope? I have one on a scope I had at the range last week. I noticed that the image fuzzed out when the wind picked up. Later I noticed that the sunshade was not quite tight. The wind was causing the sunshade to vibrate, ever so slightly, which caused the scope to vibrate as well. This was only a problem because the sunshade was a bit loose and could wobble a bit on the threads. Maybe not your issue, but it was unexpected and could be easily overlooked...

I tried with and without the shade to see if it helped. I’ll make sure it’s tight but it did it without as well. I’ll mess with the diopter a little more and see if I can get it better

As most things go with good products I am pretty sure this was user error. I called Vortex tech support and explained what was happening, I had forgot one important step when messing with the diopter was to set it too infinity... The scope was basically focusing in on the mirage and washing out the targets, once I got the diopter set with the parallax set to infinity the targets became much more clear.....
