I picked up a new gen 3 on Friday. It is the first Glock I have bought in a while that I like. I noticed that the mag does not drop freely when the pistol is tilted to one side. The mag will drop when the mag is going strait down but will often not if I try to sling it to the side like I do with all my others pistols. The mag release spring seems weak. This seems weird since the gun is new. I have owned 4 Glocks. Three gen 3's and 1 gen 4 and I don't remember anything like this happening in the past. Is this something I need to send it back for or can I do something to fix it myself?

I use to do what you are doing when ejecting a magazine, (on 1911 and Glocks). I found that it would delay getting the magazine out of the gun. (in your case it's even worse than that). I decided to train myself to have the grip pointing downward when I want to eject a magazine. Much better that way. I would suggest you get away from tilting the gun to eject a magazine.

It is not a mag release spring issue. The spring inside the grip for the mag release has no bearing on the mag dropping free. It's sole purpose is to return the release to its original position. Glock mags are plastic and usually lighter than most other mags made out of metal. The added weight of the metal allows gravity to assist a bit more in the mag dropping free. As Nosler mentioned, you have to get out of the habit of tilting the gun as your hitting the mag release, then tilt it to get an eyeball after the mag has dropped free.

One trick to slick it up a bit is to take armor all wipes and wipe the inside of the magwell. It helps a little and may mean the difference of a smooth reload and a botched one.
