Hi, Boardhead here. Hello to everyone. New to this site , but not to guns or shooting. Not a LEO , but friendly with some of those guys.

Curious if many guys are using these mid sized Glocks for their tactical work ? Seems they might be a viable choice.

Re: Glock 30 - chosen often ?

Welcome to the 'Hide Boardhead!

I carry G30sf near daily. Otherwise it's my G21sf for work. I sometime hate the word "tactical" because what does it mean? I'm NOTpicking on you, so don't take that as an attack please.

Is it a viable choice for my plain-clothes LE assignment? Sure, I think so. I carry full-size G21 mags as my backups.

Is it a good CCW gun? If you don't mind the size, I think so still. It is a wide firearm, so IWB carry can be a bit challinging sometimes.

Could one use it for SWAT entry team? I guess, it is the same general size as a Glock 19/23. A weapon light sticks way WAY out past the muzzle, and it honestly looks funny(WML + G30.)

It still holds two more rounds than a 1911 full-size.(and I love my 1911's too) But it's all on what you want to do with the pistol. It's all on what you are considering "tactical?"

regards!

Re: Glock 30 - chosen often ?

I have a fleet of Glocks and my '30 is certainly my favorite. It is my go-to pistol for most purposes, though if I'm going to carry it, I'll grab the '29 instead.

I have shot IPSC and IDPA with it in SSP, and have been competitive.

There is no accuracy tradeoff in choosing the '30 over a '21, though I've found velocity to be ~30fps lower from the '30 as compared to the ~21.

As stated, other than the couple mags that come with the '30 when you buy it, all your spares should be the '21 13 rounders!

If I could only keep one glock, hell, if I could only keep one pistol, it would be my '30.

Re: Glock 30 - chosen often ?

I carry the G30 as a back up and off duty weapon. In my opinion you can not go wrong with it. When I carry the G30 I always carry the full size G21 magazines as spares. It can be shot just as good as the 21 and is easier to conceal. It all boils down to what is your primary use going to be.

The 19, 23 and 31 are awesome packages. They're the same size as the 30 in profile, but are a bit thinner (noticeably so), and obviously have a capacity advantage.

Still, I love that thump the 30 produces as it sends lead downrange at 850fps, 230gr at a time.

Re: Glock 30 - chosen often ?

I love my G30 for a CCW. I don't have any problem with the width. I can't notice much difference in carry compared to a G19. I prefer 45ACP or 10mm over 40 and 9mm, so it was a simple decision for me. I just got rid of all of my 9mm stuff.
