Watching a re-run of Top Shot where they are using the Glock 34 for the close out - pretty impressive pistol to take that kind of abuse...

Who's got one, is there a newer/better Glock out?

Thinking I may want one of these....

Re: Glock 34

Older Glocks are tanks. Stay away from gen4, Glock is still trying to unscrew them (recoil spring Assy, ejector, extractor, slide lock spring and who knows what next). I had a 34, it was a laser. I had about 8K rounds through it when I sold it. It had never choked.

Re: Glock 34

Gen 4 frame guns are Glock's somewhat recent attempt to keep up with the features offered by the newer Smith and Wesson M&P line. They have interchangable backstraps, larger/easier to reach magazine releases, and a redesigned recoil sping assembly. Others have also noted some changes in small parts like the extractor. Glock has been working out the reliability kinks with the Gen4s ever since they were released.

Gen 3 guns have none of the new whiz-bang features, but are the tried and true 20+ year old Glock design. Plus or minus the tweaks Glock has made since the first Gen1 G17 they are closer to the original.

I would not touch the Gen4 as in my view Glock screwed up a perfectly good design in order to keep up with Smith & Wesson in the marketing war. I'll take the more reliable and somewhat less ergonomic Gen3 every time.

I own a G34 and a G17. The 34s that myself and friends own have been just as reliable as the 17s we own. The 34 is mainly intended for competition, but can be used for duty/defense just fine. It costs a little more $$ and is a littel longe and therefore less concealable, if any of that matters to you.
In my opinion a 17 will serve you just as well if not a little better than the 34. If you have your heart set on a 34, or are planning on doing competitions, then go for it. Otherwise just save yourself some $$ and get a 17.

Re: Glock 34

I would buy a Gen4 if that all you can find, swap out the trigger bar and maybe the recoil spring, and maybe the ejector from an older generation or buy a Gen3, and shoot it until it fails, that will be many thousands of rounds later, the .25 cent trigger job really smoothes out the trigger, the stock Glock sights are better than nothing, but not much better.

Re: Glock 34

I have a Gen 3 model 34. 100% reliable and fun to shoot. Liked the balance better on the model 34 than the 17L.

Also have a Gen 4 17 that is the most accurate Glock I have ever owned. Have experienced none of the problems people are crowing about on the net.

Re: Glock 34

my wife has a gen 3 only problem i have had is the barrel fouls up pretty bad after 50 rounds or so but other than that it is a laser my wife's favorite thing to do is shoot a steel silhouette at 100 yards with it and she is getting pretty dawm good at it

Re: Glock 34

I have a Gen 3 G34, it is a great shooter. Nailing jacks at night with it is no issue. Good practice. Performance on demand.

Re: Glock 34

In regards to concealment, there is not much size difference between a G34 and a 5" 1911. I read where people talk about how it is not concealable, but I have not found that to be the case.

Bearing that in mind, I admit that I am a big G19 fan though, Having been issued one for a number of years overseas, I consider it a fine concealment/general duty sidearm.

Stateside I carry a 3rd gen G19 more often off duty than anything else these days. It is simply a practical choice.

+1 to that.

I too would look to get a Gen3 before a Gen4. Biggest complaint with the Gen4 is the new extractor. Most work but they are not the equal in reliability of the Gen3 9mm Glocks witch are legendary for reliability. Not saying I would never get a Gen4 but I would look for Gen3 first.
