Going to order new .308 sizing dies. Which ones?

I own Lee sizing dies at the moment but the FL sizing die works like shit. Money is kind of tight right now so I don't think I'm going to be able to afford the top notch dies.

The Lee neck sizing die seems to be working fine but I'm wondering if there's a reason to replace? Do and other neck sizing dies offer a significant advantage over the Lee? If so, what?

I'm just loading for bolt rifles but acquire brass here and there that needs to be FL sized.

what is wrong with your lee die.need more info to why your die isn't working.I have never had any prob with mine. you may need to just contact lee.the collet die will sometimes get stuck, but one can fix or help prevent that.

Get the Redding FL Types-S die instead and you can use it as a body die by simply leaving out the bushing or size with the bushing. I have both. The FL die doesn't seem to squeeze the base as much as the body die.

Not sure what is up with your Lee's, but they are what they are after all.

Plenty will say Redding, but Forster's are excellent too.

You can always partial size with a fl die. No doubt that many here do just that, so a neck die isn't absolutely necessary. That being said, I also use a Hornady Match neck bushing die for my FGMM brass and like it, but you said money was tight.

If you plan to upgrade the sizer, there realy is no good reason not to get a new set altogether. Here is where I believe the Forster's win out, as their seater die is a really good inline die. To get the inline seater for the Redding, mucho moreo dinero.

I almost forgot the Hornady fl set. Their seater is a version of a inline die. I use them for my .223 and they make very good ammo. Not gonna break the bank with them.

No matter, pay once and cry only once...

My $.02, FWIW, YMMV, and all that.

If you are the kind that likes to run experiments, I suggest thinking carefully about getting the micrometer dies--Redding of course.

I have Type-S in 223 adn Competitioin dies in 308. I think the competition dies are well worth the money difference.

"I own Lee sizing dies at the moment but the FL sizing die works like shit."

Could you be a bit more technically specific, what is your Lee FL die failing to do?

I've not found Redding, Forster, RCBS, etc. FL sizers to be any better, on average, than Lee's. Perhaps the fault lies in the stars rather than the sizer.

Re: Going to order new .308 sizing dies. Which ones?

When I say the Lee FL sizing die works like shit I mean cases get stuck in the damn thing no matter how much I lube them up. When I follow their "stuck case" removal instructions it leaves me no where.

I use Dillon dies for .223 and have NEVER had a problem. Their stuck case removal seems so much better.

I have a Redding Micrometer seating die for .308, works great. What I'm wondering is if, and what significant advantages another neck sizing die would give me over the Lee. The Lee neck sizer has been working fine(as far as I know) but I'm wondering if there's a level of consistency/accuracy that can't be attained with it.

What I'll probably end up doing is just buying a new FL sizing die. Then I'll be FL sizing with a RCBS, neck sizing with a Lee, and seating with a Redding. Is that bad?

Certainly not. Anything that works and floats your boat is good. I have some 50 sets of dies, maybe ten brands (nost of which are no longer in business) and mix the better dies from several sets to make my working sets.

Reason I asked, I've stuck a LOT of cases over the years, never thought to blame the dies. It was always my fault for improper lubing, mostly when doing case lube experments and reforming cases. Never stuck a case in a Lee sizer so I don't know how well their removal system works.

May we ask what lube your are using on your problem Lee die?

Re: Going to order new .308 sizing dies. Which ones?

I used Hornady One Shot lube to FL size. I have FL sized thousands of .223 cases with my Dillon die using One Shot, no problem.
