As I understand Arsenal makes a great AK-47. In this series of posts http://snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads....rue#Post2090477 Inter Ordnance(IO Inc.) and Lancaster make good AK-s. In looking through the Guns For Sale section there have been several guns built by small shops that are suppose to be very good.

Based upon the above....who makes good pre-ban AK-47's small shops or large and what should one budget for a "good quality" AK and what do you look for to determine what makes a quality AK (I know quality is all relevant

Thanks

Make sure you understand what YOU require in an AK.

I have a Century WASR 10. It seems to be universally despised in AK snobdom. However it has never failed to go bang with cheap ammo and can kill stuff dead inside of 300M.

I got it simply because I wanted a basic example of what I might run across in some mud-hut infested corner of the world.

I have no need or desire to have some collector AK.

My next AK will be a Draco SBR. So you can see I like cheap and effective.

Re: "Good" AK-47 Manufacturers

I've had a WASR-10 since 2003, back when they were a heck of a steal. The WASR, (13) Mags, and 1k of Wolf ammo was $500 out-the-door. Not the highest quality piece out there finish wise, but it works 100% and is more than minute of man. You'll find AK Purists are very detailed oriented and know just about every marking, rivet, etc. to make whatever AK variant correct - often at high cost and build times/effort.

The Arsenal series are very high quality, but you can buy (2) WASRS for one Arsenal series. Ammo wise, 5.45x39 will run you about $120/1080 where 7.62x39 will be double that price. Just a few things to consider....
