I am looking for a good powder to use in both my 243 and 30-06. they are both factory rifles and are used for hunting & paper 243 is a Rem 700sps (this is my project gun and will be upgraded in the future) and 30-06 is an old 60's 742 bullets i am using/ considering are around the 80's for 243 (i.e. 87vmax 85tsx)and 165's in 30-06 (i.e. 165sst 168ttsx 168 amax) i have heard good about reloader 15, 17 and 19 and have been interested in it.

I can use Reloader 15 in both but with varying success. Works great in my .243 but IMR 4350 is the powder of choice for my 06. Best bet is to work up loads for both and see what you get. You may end up with a tack driving load for both.

i cant find data on the RE 17 for these, any suggestions?
also i have been considering IMR4350 cause i use H4350 right now is it better?

Re: Good Powder for .243win and 30-06?

do not use ANY 4350 in an old 742! You can ruin the gun. Use a good middle of the burn rate powder. Back years ago I used IMR3031 and 150gr bullets with great success in the 742. Look for Garand data to use in a 742. Varget may also be good but I can't really confirm nor deny....but it should be. IMR4064 is as slow a powder as I would shoot in a 742.
Your 243, H4350...only powder you really need to know. I have had some great success with IMR4320 but the load tends to run on the hot side for best accuracy with that powder in my 243. Some guys I know use Varget with success but my rifle isn't a fan.

Family man,

You may wanna try either Superformance powder or H-4350.

Both of these produce top velocities in .243 and 30-06.

Hodgon's website (reloading data center) enables you to see what type of velocities you can expect with certain powders and calibers.

I have a 243 rifle and an M1 garand(i have a plug to minimize port pressures)...i will be using either of these two powders when i get serious for reloading for them.
