I have a neighbor who is your typical deranged old man. Don't want to go into too many details because the police are involved now but he is dangerous so I need a good system that won't go down or run out of batteries/recording time too soon.

OK since I know you fuckers will want details should I talk about the time he was dressed like a fly fisherman trying to fish in a drainage ditch, the time he called 911 about Christmas Lights or the time he pulled a gun on me?

What ever camera you decide on this is an excellent lens filter

Definately wanna hear about the gun story. I have a few cheap canavis day/night cameras hard lined to a computer. They have a good picture and dont run on batteries. Other parts of my property i keep strap on game cameras.

I use these with a DVR
They are not cheap but they work without issue.

Not an expert here, but I am comfortable with some Reolink B800's. Its hardwired in to your storage platform, which you can insulate against power outages with a UPS.

Stores constant footage with good clarity in low light conditions. It has range limitations but you could overcome those with some DIY home projects.

I didn't do a lot of research prior to buying so there may be something better out there, but its a good starting point.

I was having a yard sale drinking beer and playing around with my dog in my front yard. He walks up and points a gun at my dog, I tell him to put it away and he points it at me then puts it away. Cops didn’t do shit either because “no video”.

Im imaging a jennings .25 chrome mouse gun....

What would be a good camera that can handle cold temps? I live in vt and the ones I've looked at they are not rated for our temps.
Most of the Cameras I install are rated for -22 -140°F..I'm in SC so don't really have to worry about either of the extremes..
What are your lows up there?
    Check out https://en.uniview.com/Products/Cameras/Prime/IPC3615SR3-ADPF28(40)-F/
    Uniview is a quality product!
If lows are below what they are rated for let me know and I will talk to My distributor and sales reps.

I have 3 lorex systems, two are 4k POE and I love them. They're having a memorial day sale currently.
I see a two camera lorex system with a little screen thing, that would be all I need to cover the front of my house. This guy is old he's not jumping my neighbor's 6ft fence to jump my 6ft fence he is just being weird in the street.

Sorry to hear of your problematic neighbor.
I have been installing cameras for family for lots of years, wired and wireless.
The best you can do at a reasonable cost ($20) is to look at the Wyze with optional SD card for storage. For another $20 they have a pan tilt version.
you need a power outlet or can run it for a couple of days on a battery pack.
great pics day and night and it’s small.
And you can get movement detection alerts.
Havecalso used more expensive FLIR , Supercircuits, Lorex and some others. Unless you need a wired system, most of these are expensive and probably overkill.
Have also heard good feedback on Arlo that run some time (weeks to months) on an internal battery.
    Good luck.

We use cove for the gun store, they run off cellular connection, so there’s not anyway to be cut off if the power goes out, good picture and pretty affordable as far as security/ monitoring systems go.

Lots of different options here, with lots of different opinions.

Up here in Manitoba, we run a wired system to a dvr. And yeah, we get the cold here, and the snow. Ya'll are in the 'balmy south' as far as we can tell.

I'm definitely NOT a fan of wireless cameras.

Tacticam Reveal x or better yet Reconyx's (expensive). Reconyx are surveillance cameras. Both use cellular. Tacticam can be used as a stand alone camera by removing the sim card.
With a PITA neighbor, tacticam can take both photo and video in both color and b/w night mode. Your phone is notified in about 30 secs after the camera is triggered. Tacticam also allows you to suspend service when ever you want with no penality.

I have an Arlo Pro system. Cost me about $300. 3 cameras. Connects through my WiFi. Free to run. Saves video for 7 days. Triggers when it senses movement. Sends notifications to your phone instantly. You can watch live feed through it as well.

Cameras are wireless and can be placed anywhere. They have a magnetic back so you can attach to the bases they come with or anything metal

Been very pleased. Live in the UP of Michigan and they spend the winter outside as well. The battery lasts several months before needing to be charged. Probably charge about once a month in the winter.

I brought them inside when the temps were -20° for a few nights as I wasn’t sure if they’d handle the cold well

I enjoy the fact that when someone comes close to my house it alerts me anywhere I am. I can live view what they are doing. Also can talk to someone through the camera and trigger a ear piercing alarm from the base station if needed

They have plans you can pay for that have storage to a cloud for a long time. The upgrade also allows the camera to record 24/7 wether it senses movement or not
