I have just bought my first precision rifle (Remington 700 308cal). I would like it blueprinted and scope mount holes enlarged to #8-40. Anyone know a good Gunsmith in South Carolina with a mill and competent enough to do the job?

Thanks

Re: Good South Carolina Gunsmith?

From what I have read Blueprinting can include many things to make a stock rifle more accurate including.

Squaring bolt face and receiver
Lapping locking lugs
Chasing existing threading
Re-chambering to exact dimensions
Re-crowning (recess crown on request)

I'm looking for an experienced gunsmith that can do these mods to a stock rem 700

Re: Good South Carolina Gunsmith?

Once the threads are trued to the bolt runway they are oversized and the factory barrel will need to be replaced. Everything else can be done and the barrel set back a turn to rechamber.

Carolina Custom Rifles is located not to far from Columbia, (Batesburg) and I have heard a bunch of good things about them. I have never personally used them though, but I am thinking of working with them in the future. Worth a look if you want somebody local.
