Very excited about it, with the recent airsoft stock to rimfire projects in the forum, i really got hooked on doing it my next rifle. thanks to all that posted up their airsoft stock projects, and the tip given through PMs and the threads themselves
so after 4 to 5 months of checking the airsoft boneyards, two showed up the other day, both $99.00 each. i wanted to give y'all a heads up on the other, by the time i got back to the site it was gone!
after doing some research, it seems the Well G96 is the stock to go with. i was hoping for a $50 boneyard special, however after waiting this long to get my hands on one, $99.00 don't seem that bad. it also came with a cheap assed 3-9 scope, a quick detachable tri picatinny rail for the front where the bipod spike is usually located, and a built in monopod that actually seems functional and is very compact. it has a magazine well where it should so it looks more natural and there's less cutting to do. another bonus is that the magazine itself can be used as a "slip cover" to hide the rimfire mag, making look more like the centerfire and to hide any mistakes / gaps or holes around the rimfire mag in a centerfire sized mag well hole. as the mag well is where it should be, the Well G96 also has a the groove in it for use with a hand stop and also has a sling point on the bottom, and is a perfect fit with a harris bipod.
some of the other usable trinkets was 2 sets of 30mm rings...one set permanently on a dovetail mount, the other set are weaver base cheapies, but they did come with 1" inserts, how about that! the bipod that usually comes with the rifle is missing, but it is a boneyard rifle, and it had that remarked in the ad. besides, i don't know what the quality of the bipod is, and i have a harris for it anyhow.
other AICS airsoft stocks out there don't have those features, except for a 1 other manufacturer whose airsoft rifle is close to $400.00.....the Well G96 is $250.00ish new. also don't confuse the G96 with the other Well AICS types stocks they produce, they are missing many of the features mentioned above.
if my CZ 455 Varmint ever comes in from CZ (bought through the hunter education instructor program) the stock will be the perfect compliment.
i believe when the time comes, i'm going to season the CZ in the original stock, then do the project, and then compare to see if there is any improvement, or the airsoft stock made it worse.
i hope to review the CZ on it's own, and the stock on it's own. then of the project combining the two. i tell you i was quite surprised of the "quality" of the stock being it's a plastic pellet pusher, but then again after looking at it, taking it apart, back together, and fondling it (the stock) for a few hours, it's leaps and bounds better than the savage tupperware stocks.
soon as i get the pictures i want to get, i'll review the stock better without the rifle in it and follow it up with a rifle in it to see if it's worth the trouble of doing it in the first place.
again, very excited thought i'd share with the folks that understand.
